Overview
The Senior Research Technician for Innovation in R & D is responsible for assisting the Principal Scientist in the testing and development of new and innovative products and related technologies, usually sourced from external partners and can come from a wide range of technology disciplines. The Senior Research Technician is responsible for supporting current and future product development and testing, up to and including product code certifications. The individual may also assist in test roof installations and analysis of field data.
Responsibilities
- Essential Duties:
- Work under the direction of a Research Scientist or Principal Scientist (25%)
- Design and build prototypes for testing product attributes (25%)
- Conduct Laboratory tests and interpret results and present data in report format (25%)
- Analyze results and execute with minimal oversight (10%)
- Project planning and organization (10%)
- Maintain safe work practices and good housekeeping (5%)

- Ability to analyze experimental data and use of statistical techniques

- Assist in all trial runs, field evaluations, and analysis of resulting data.
- Maintains laboratory equipment in an operable and calibrated condition
- Interacts with vendors to procure equipment, chemicals, and materials for department work
- Ability to present meaningful results and unbiased conclusions orally and graphically to senior R&D management
- Composes clear written communications including memos and reports
Technical Knowledge/Skills
- Background in materials testing, materials science, and/or new product development
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles, basic materials science or chemistry
- Ability to conduct experiments as per test protocols
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office or G Suite
General Knowledge Skills
- Should have good communication and interpersonal skills
- Needs to be a good team player
- Interacts with other R&D groups and participates in Laboratory Safety and Continuous Improvement Teams
- Maintains and audits thorough records in laboratory notebooks, analyzes test results, and issues project reports.
Education/Experience Requirements
Associate Degree in Engineering, Applied or Physical Science is preferred or 5+ years related experience
