The Role
Provide technical leadership in functional and non-functional testing of ETL/ELT jobs for Data and analytics platforms including but not limited to Hadoop, Azure, SQL Server, DB2, Oracle, NoSQL.
Developing test plans that ensure appropriate functions, features and scenarios are exercised for each new application/release; driving test development and execution to meet the project objectives for each new application/release; testing code fixes and change requests after the data integration jobs moves into production including regression testing as appropriate; and establishing a testing framework that promotes a repeatable, quality-driven test process for all phases of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).

- Direct and guide project test teams to ensure the timely delivery of quality products/ functions consistent with the business needs and priorities of Canadian Banking Technology. Responsibilities include providing technical leadership and overseeing projects or work streams managed by QA team. Manage testing for large, complex projects by reviewing and evaluating requirements and design documentation, developing test strategies, approving the preparation of comprehensive test documentation, overseeing daily testing activities and monitoring the ongoing progress of testing.
- Participate in the process to establish, communicate and manage objectives, strategies and plans for the Testing area of UAT, ensuring quality principles are adhered to in a ‘speed-to-market’ culture. Review planned activities for future initiatives, participate in forward-planning sessions and identify/ resolve conflicts between initiatives. Develop and administer Quality Assurance standards and policies.
- Assess the test requirements of projects and releases and approve the timing of releases within an integrated test schedule. Appraise outstanding issues impacting the promotion of code to the Production environment and provide direction to minimize associated risks. Approve test evaluations, review code implementation strategies and authorize recommendations for promotion of code to the Production environment to ensure the highest quality of service in the delivery of data delivery initiatives.
- Manage the planning, scheduling, assignment and monitoring of testing activities for assigned projects, to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained. Manage the coordination of day to day testing efforts for assigned application systems and project testing efforts with other testing personnel, end users, technical support and development areas. Troubleshoot when problems arise and contribute to their resolution in a hands‑on manner when necessary.
- Provide ongoing direction, human resources administration, coaching and support to motivate individual and team performance in a stable, professional environment while ensuring department objectives are met; evaluate the performance of immediate subordinates through daily monitoring, regular staff meetings, quarterly reviews of objectives vs. accomplishments and annual performance appraisals. Manage the recruitment of new staff and identify training requirements.
- Maintain a thorough and current comprehension of Banking systems, UAT code configuration and connections, environmental resources, code delivery processes and rapidly advancing Business System and technological changes. Analyze industry best practices to recommend improvements to methodology, test environments and workflow to promote an efficient and cost-effective UAT process.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?
- QA Manager with strong ETL testing background, minimum of 10 years of experience
- Excellent leadership skills to direct large groups at varying levels (may include project leaders, testers) towards common objectives
- Excellent organizational, analytical and forward thinking skills to coordinate both complex code delivery schedules and the allocation of limited resources for large testing initiatives
- Expert understanding of UAT standards and methodology
- Testing strategy development for large programs involving data mapping, data flow validation
- Program management skills with governance, status reporting and defect management
- Testing Automation strategy definition and execution.
- Prior program management experience in large transformation programs, Stakeholder Management, Test strategy definition, Agile
- Excellent knowledge of SQL.
- Experience of Testing in Hadoop and public Cloud environments including Azure
- Excellent knowledge of Data Warehousing and Databases such as Oracle, DB2, SQL Server. NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Experience with one or more ETL applications like Talend, SSIS, Data Stage, Informatica, Oracle Data Integrator
- Strong decision-making skills to resolve conflicts arising over a wide range of UAT activities
- Conceptual thinking skills to achieve department objectives
- Effective communication skills to address issues with QA testing and other department staff who have varying degrees of experience and technological knowledge
- Recruitment skills to interview and assess potential candidates, provide recommendations for hiring and identify training requirements
