Job summary

A financial technology company in Nova Scotia is seeking an experienced Backend QA Engineer to perform manual investigations of backend software issues and design automated solutions. The ideal candidate has over 5 years of QA experience, scripting capabilities in Bash and Python, and a strong understanding of Unix/Linux. This role focuses on identifying test script deficiencies and exploratory testing of unreleased features.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Hands-on manual investigation and reproduction of functional backend software issues.
• Design, implement, and manage automated solutions to replace manual processes in a distributed system environment.
• Identification of current test script deficiencies and candidates for additional scripted coverage.
• Investigatory testing of unreleased features including defining requirements, behavior and impact.
• Documentation and write the test report for above.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend QA engineering experience.
• Full cycle testing from designing manual tests, developing scripts and execution.
• Strong experience with Unix/Linux (must-have).
• Scripting ability using Bash and Python (must-have 3+ years of experience).
• Experience testing backend services such as APIs, Databases, distributed services (non-monolithic).
• Good to have additional DevOps knowledge or experience.
• Enjoys breaking things and solving problems - not just able to find out the 'what', but also the 'why'.
• Clear, logical communicator in English.
