Position Overview
Our client, the Ontario Public Service – Health Services Cluster, is seeking a Senior Automation Developer to design, develop, implement, and continuously improve automated software testing solutions for large, complex healthcare IT environments. The successful candidate will provide hands‑on technical leadership in test automation, develop and maintain automation frameworks and scripts, support functional and non‑functional testing, and collaborate closely with QA Analysts, Developers, Architects, Product Owners, and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with test automation, Selenium, performance testing/LoadRunner, API testing, DevOps, SQL, security testing, accessibility testing, and healthcare/public‑sector IT environments, along with experience applying modern automation technologies, including AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to introduce and enhance automation within software development and software testing processes.
- Design, develop, and execute automated QA tests using automation scripts to validate application functionality.
- Design, develop, maintain, and improve test automation frameworks.
- Design and develop automation solutions using emerging technologies, including AI-enabled test automation approaches.
- Develop, maintain, execute, and troubleshoot automated test scripts.
- Utilize established test automation frameworks and tools, including Selenium.
- Review existing test automation approaches and recommend improvements, efficiencies, and best practices.
- Analyze testing and DevOps processes, standards, and practices and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide technical support for test automation tools, frameworks, environments, and associated technologies.
- Participate in Sprint Retrospectives and identify opportunities to improve QA and automation practices.
- Evaluate test automation tools and technologies and provide recommendations for adoption and implementation.
- Translate functional, business, technical, and system requirements into effective test strategies, test cases, and automation solutions.
- Create and manage test data according to approved test plans.
- Analyze test results, troubleshoot failures, perform retesting, and ensure expected results are achieved.
- Participate in walkthroughs, reviews, defect triage, and stakeholder validation activities.
- Work closely with Developers, Architects, Product Owners, QA Analysts, and other stakeholders to establish effective test plans based on feature and solution documentation.
- Track, investigate, and resolve testing and production issues and quality deficiencies.
- Support client acceptance activities and recommend changes required to achieve acceptable testing outcomes.
- Perform testing and retesting in live/production environments where required and support recommendations for user sign‑off.
- Ensure test automation assets are maintained under source control, appropriately documented, and included in applicable disaster recovery processes.
- Apply QA, technical, troubleshooting, and analytical expertise to maintain application and client service integrity.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications & Experience
Public Sector / Healthcare Experience
- 5+ years of experience working with federal, provincial, or broader public‑sector healthcare providers.
- Experience working on public‑sector health‑related projects.
- Experience with large, complex IT healthcare projects.
- Knowledge of Public Sector Enterprise Architecture artifacts, processes, and practices, with the ability to produce technical documentation aligned with industry standards.
- Knowledge of public‑sector IT project management methodologies, including PMI and/or equivalent methodologies.
- Knowledge and understanding of Ministry policies, IT project approval processes, and requirements.
- Experience adopting and adhering to public‑sector Unified I&IT Project Methodology, Enterprise Architecture, gating processes, and OPS Standard Systems Development Methodologies.
