AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Senior Probabilistic Safety Analysis Analyst to join the Probabilistic Safety Analysis group in Canada. You will develop and apply advanced PSA methods for Level 1-3, seismic, fire and flood assessments, and work with clients on safety analyses for existing and new builds.

The role emphasizes leadership of junior analysts, training material development, and delivery of PSAs within budget and schedule, with occasional travel to client sites.

Qualifications

  • Engineering degree with at least 10 years of PSA experience.
  • Strong knowledge of CANDU design (NSP and BOP) and reliability principles.
  • Ability to work with clients in a consultant relationship and travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

  • Perform probabilistic safety assessments of plant systems focusing on internal events, shutdowns, and external hazards.
  • Conduct reliability assessments of safety systems (e.g., ECC, containment) and plant operation.
  • Interface with clients to assess safety issues and propose solutions.
  • Prepare and review work proposals for clients.
  • Develop risk monitors and generation risk assessments.
  • Apply PSA methodologies and standards (Canadian, US, IAEA).
  • Plan and coordinate detailed PSA phases for large projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and supervise junior analysts.

The department of Probabilistic Safety Analysis at AtkinsRéalis (Candu Energy) is engaged in probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) in support of existing and new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants both domestic and international.

AtkinsRéalis is looking to hire a Senior Probabilistic Safety AnalysisAnalyst. The incumbent will work with other junior and senior staff to develop and apply advanced analysis methodologies to perform PSAs and other PSA related safety analyses for existing, refurbishment and new build. These include issues related to hazard identification, Level 1 PSA, Level 2 PSA, Level 3 PSA, seismic, flood and or fire safety assessments, failure mode and effect analyses, internal and external events. The incumbent are also expected to be able to develop training material in PSA and review PSA documents, have strong analytical and technical skills in PSA, and be ready to take on various technical tasks within a short period of time.

Your role
  • Responsible for probabilistic safety assessments of plant systems especially in the area of internal events, shutdown, internal fire, internal flood and seismic events as well as other external hazards
  • Responsible for conducting reliability systems assessments (process and safety), especially safety systems e.g. emergency core cooling, containment,) balance of plant, and plant operation and safety related systems.
  • Interfacing with clients/projects to assess operational and safety issues and advising on potential solutions.
  • Preparing and/or reviewing work proposals for internal and external clients.
  • Developing risk monitor and generation risk assessments.
  • Knowledge of PSA methodologies, codes and standards (e.g. Canadian, US, IAEA).
  • Developing, plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of the analysis work for a project of large scope.
  • Proposing/developing approaches to be used on safety analysis tasks.
  • Supervise the work of staff in a multi-discipline setting, provide technical guidance and leadership to junior engineers and technical employees ensuring work is performed consistent with project requirements
  • Provide positive reinforcement and act proactively to encourage positive relationships and teamwork.
About you
  • A relevant Engineering degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of the CANDU design, including both NSP (especially safety systems) and BOP
  • Broad knowledge of system operation, plant response and understanding of underlying reliability principles.
  • Able to work closely and effectively with the clients in a client/consultant relationship.
  • Proficient in CAFTA suite of computer codes, CFAST and/or RiskSpectrum an asset.
  • Proven leadership skills, as technical guidance to assist and supervise analysts with good communication skills.
  • Experience in licensing activities would also be an asset.
  • Understanding of light water reactor design and PSAs an asset.
  • Ability to work to budget and schedule. Must be willing to travel occasionally to participate in walkdowns, meetings and workshops.
  • Eligible for nuclear energy worker (NEW).
