Job summary

Pinchin, a multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm, seeks a Senior Project Technologist in Sudbury, ON to lead hazardous materials and IEQ projects across the region. The role combines field work with rigorous data analysis and reporting to deliver safer, healthier environments.

You will assess conditions, collect data, interpret findings, and produce detailed reports and AutoCAD drawings, while mentoring junior staff. Travel to Northern Ontario and occasional weekends are required.

Qualifications

  • Three to five years of practical experience in the field of HAZ and/or IEQ.
  • Experience with asbestos, mould, or other hazardous materials abatement/remediation is an asset.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings.
  • Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and complete complex assessments for mould, IAQ, designated substances, and other hazardous building materials.
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site-specific concerns.
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke and fire and provide remediation solutions.
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors to document proper completion of work.
  • Collect and analyze asbestos air samples and designated substances assessments.
  • Perform invasive building assessments and testing (roof cuts, water tests, etc.).
  • Aid in developing designs and specifications for abatement/restoration projects.
  • Prepare detailed reports presenting HAZ/IEQ findings, interpretations, and recommendations, including AutoCAD drawings.
  • Liaise between clients and contractors; maintain and build client relationships.
  • Schedule field reviews with clients and contractors.
  • Provide project support and technical guidance to junior staff.

Department Overview

In this position, you will play an important role in helping clients create safer and healthier spaces. Your work will support projects that protect workers, improve building performance, and strengthen the health and resilience of communities. You will assess conditions in the field, gather accurate data, and translate your findings into clear recommendations that help clients make informed decisions. You will collaborate closely with colleagues and clients to understand their goals and deliver solutions that reflect quality, integrity, and care. Your Role and Actions
  • Lead and complete complex assessments for mould, indoor air quality (IAQ), designated substances, and other hazardous building materials.
  • Conduct interviews with clients regarding building history and site‑specific client concerns.
  • Assess building damages related to floods, water losses, smoke and fire and provide remediation solutions.
  • Inspect abatement and restoration contractors undertaking mould, asbestos and other hazardous materials remediation work to document that the work has been properly completed.
  • Collect and analyze Phase Contract Microscope (PCM) asbestos air samples.
  • Perform designated substances assessments, including hazardous building materials and identify and sample suspect asbestos, lead, and PCB‑containing materials.
  • Conduct invasive building assessments and testing (roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.)
  • Aid to develop designs and specifications for abatement/restoration projects.
  • Prepare detailed reports to present HAZ or IEQ findings, data interpretation, recommendations and detailed AutoCAD drawings.
  • Liaise between clients and contractors; maintaining existing client relationships and building new ones.
  • Schedule field reviews with clients and contractors.
  • Provide project support and technical guidance to junior staff.
What You Bring To The Pinchin Team
  • College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural Technology / Science, Construction Technology or Civil Engineering Technology. Bachelor of Science or Applied Science is preferred. Related post‑secondary education an asset.
  • Three to five years of practical experience in the field of HAZ and/or IEQ.
  • Experience with building construction or maintenance and familiarity with building systems (structure, envelope, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with asbestos, mould, or other hazardous materials abatement and/or remediation is considered an asset.
  • Experience reading and interpreting architectural drawings.
  • Knowledge of environmental and health and safety legislation/guidelines.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with an ability to follow detailed instructions.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills.
  • Ability to safely transport and carry 20‑foot extension or folding ladder, hand tools and PPE is required.
  • Availability to work outside our core business hours, rotational weekends and travel is required.
  • Ability to travel in Northern Ontario to meet project demands.
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance & personal vehicle required (work related travel expenses will be compensated).
