Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Project Manager for our Power Generation team in Canada. You will lead natural gas and renewable energy projects as Owner’s Engineer or Advisor, with responsibility for schedule, budget, and client relationships.

You will provide leadership to project teams, manage risks, review contracts, and mentor staff while ensuring quality deliverables and alignment with client expectations across multiple concurrent projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license is required or recognized.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience are essential; Access experience is a plus.

Job description

Join HDR as a Senior Project Manager in the Power Generation team, responsible for leading natural gas and renewable energy generation projects as Owner’s Engineer or Advisor.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain positive and proactive client relationships.
  • Achieve project schedule, quality, and profitability goals.
  • Serve as proposal champion/manager and assist with proposal preparation, review of contract terms and conditions, and evaluate risks associated with the services being offered.
  • Provide daily leadership to the project team and technical staff in completion of project activities.
  • Provide regular communication and coordination within the project team and with the client such that the project work plan and the client’s expectations on deliverables are understood and aligned. Monitor project deliverables for quality, completeness and conformance to the client’s expectations.
  • Proactively monitor and maintain the project budget and schedule. Develop appropriate recovery plans in the event of potential shortfalls.
  • Monitor the contracted scope of work and identify scope changes.
  • Provide training and mentoring to project team staff on project management and project consulting issues.
  • Guide design or consulting work in the manager’s area of engineering expertise.
  • Routinely report project progress to the local and regional accounting and operations team.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PMP Certification
  • Experience designing or managing simple cycle and combined cycle EPC projects as owner, owner’s engineer, OEM, or EPC contractor.
  • Have the ability to handle multiple concurrent projects.
  • Demonstrated business development skills.
  • Good communication, leadership, planning, and mentoring skills.
  • MS Office, Adobe, and other relevant software experience.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 10 years related experience
  • Minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
