Job summary

WSP in Canada is looking for a Senior Project Manager – Environmental to lead complex environmental assessment and permitting programs across Western Canada. You will shape client strategies, manage regulatory outcomes, and deliver impactful results for communities and industry.

The ideal candidate should possess deep expertise in environmental assessment, proven experience in delivering EIAs, and exceptional communication skills to engage with a variety of stakeholders.

Job description

Senior Project Manager – Environmental

Lead large‑scale environmental assessment and permitting programs in Western Canada, shaping client strategy, influencing regulatory outcomes, and delivering meaningful results for communities, industry and the environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead successful delivery of large, complex environmental assessment and permitting programs from initiation through closeout.
  • Provide strategic oversight across scope, schedule, budget, risk, quality, safety and stakeholder engagement.
  • Direct multidisciplinary teams, aligning technical, regulatory and client objectives across multiple workstreams.
  • Establish execution strategies, governance structures and delivery frameworks to ensure efficient program success.
  • Serve as the primary client relationship lead, managing executive‑level communication, negotiation and issue resolution.
  • Drive strong financial performance, including forecasting, revenue planning and margin optimisation.
  • Anticipate and mitigate strategic risks while advising clients on regulatory exposure and program impacts.
  • Mentor project managers and emerging leaders, strengthening team capability and long‑term talent development.
Qualifications
  • Deep expertise in environmental assessment and regulatory permitting frameworks across Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Proven experience delivering large‑scale EIAs, permitting programmes and regulatory approvals.
  • Advanced ability to interpret and apply complex federal, provincial and municipal legislation.
  • Demonstrated success leading large, distributed, multidisciplinary teams across multiple regions.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing programme‑level revenue, profitability and forecasting.
  • Exceptional communication skills to engage clients, regulators, Indigenous communities and senior stakeholders.
  • Strategic thinker capable of navigating complexity, ambiguity and competing priorities.
  • Recognised as a trusted adviser with a strong track record of client relationship management and business growth.
Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $122,900 – $162,800
MB & ON: $112,100 – $154,400
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $111,000 – $147,400

Disclosure: The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance and organisational needs.
