Your Opportunity

Dillon Consulting Limited is seeking a highly motivated Senior Project Manager to join our Project Management Office (PMO). Reporting directly to the Director, Project Management, this role is central to our mission of continually improving project performance and building project management capacity across our national disciplines.

This is a new position that can be based in any of the following Dillon offices: Vancouver, Chatham, Guelph, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener, London, Oakville, Ottawa, Downtown Toronto, North York, Vaughan and Windsor. We offer flexible work hours and hybrid work arrangement options to help balance the competing demands of work and personal life.

About Dillon

Dillon Consulting Limited (Dillon) is a proudly Canadian, 100% employee-owned professional consulting firm specializing in planning, engineering, environmental science, and management. With over 25 offices and more than 1100 employees across Canada, we offer a wide range of services related to building and improving facilities and infrastructure, protecting the environment, and developing communities.

At Dillon, we thrive on interdisciplinary collaboration, empowering our people to challenge conventional thinking and build careers focused on creating a lasting impact in our communities. Employee ownership is available to all team members, ensuring that the financial benefit created by our project work returns to the very people who created that value.

Responsibilities

Project Management:

  • Lead End-to-End Project Delivery: Manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects for external clients from proposals through completion, effectively meeting scope, schedule, budget and quality standards.
  • Manage Project Teams: Act as the primary bridge across multiple disciplines to align workflows, clear roadblocks and maintain project momentum to deliver projects successfully.
  • Manage Client and Project Team Communications: Serve as the central point of contact for client leadership, delivering clear updates, managing scope changes proactively and building high-trust partnerships.
  • Mitigate Risk and Monitor Financials: Proactively identify and manage project risks, maintain accurate budget forecasts, and implement mitigation strategies to protect project margin.

Targeted Project Support & Intervention:

  • Root Cause Analysis: Partner with Discipline Leads to conduct root cause analysis on persistent negative variances and co-create corrective actions to implement into workflows.
  • Direct Intervention: Provide support for higher-risk projects to mitigate losses, manage scope changes, and ensure appropriate reserves are in place.

Coaching & Capacity Building:

  • PM Mentoring: Providing coaching and mentoring to enable growth of project managers in managing increasingly complex projects, and to those experiencing delivery or margin challenges.
Qualifications

Education: Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Planning, Business Administration, or a related field.

Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP®) designation is a strong asset.

Industry Acumen: Deep understanding of how professional services firms operate including pricing and winning work, project delivery, billing and payment, resource management, and project financial reporting.

Communication: Exceptional ability to present complex project performance data clearly and facilitate difficult conversations regarding project health.

Problem Solving: Proven ability to identify trends across disciplines and develop systemic solutions to improve project delivery efficiency.

Experience
  • 10+ years of experience in project management within the engineering, environmental, or planning consulting industry.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-disciplinary teams and high-risk/complex projects using a variety of project management tools.
  • Experience in project turnaround or providing support to troubled projects is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with financial management systems (ERP) and project performance dashboards.
  • Experience challenging existing project delivery processes to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
Compensation
