Job summary

IAMGOLD is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Project Geologist to lead and execute exploration programs within assigned project areas and at remote exploration sites. This role plays a critical part in growing the company’s resource base through the discovery of new deposits and the expansion of known gold resources, while identifying exploration opportunities that support IAMGOLD’s long-term growth strategy.

Working closely with multidisciplinary field teams and exploration leadership, the Senior Project Geologist will plan, oversee, and actively participate in exploration programs, ensuring the collection of high-quality geological data, the safe execution of field activities, and the optimal performance of exploration teams. This position combines hands‑on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, requiring a strong field presence and close collaboration with geological staff, contractors, and local stakeholders.

The successful candidate will be responsible for recommending and implementing approved exploration programs, including mapping, sampling, drilling, geophysical surveys, and data compilation. The role also involves evaluating acquisition opportunities through property reviews, site visits, regional compilations, and technical recommendations to exploration management. Quality control, regulatory compliance, budget management, and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards are fundamental components of success in this position.

Qualifications

We are seeking a candidate with strong technical geological expertise, a university degree in Geology (or a higher-level qualification), professional registration in good standing with a relevant professional association, and a minimum of eight (8) years of mining exploration experience, including gold exploration and project management. Strong leadership and communication skills, along with the ability to work effectively in remote and challenging environments, are essential. This position is based in Chibougamau, with the majority of time spent on field activities and limited days working from the office.
