Job summary

AtkinsRéalis seeks an experienced Project Engineer (Bridges) to act as Engineer of Record for Calgary bridge projects. The role includes technical oversight, leading multi-disciplinary teams, and delivering design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.

Candidate must hold a Civil Engineering degree (Structural preferred), P.Eng with APEGA, and a PMP designation with 5+ years in project management, plus 8+ years in bridge/transportation engineering.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a Structural major).
• Registered as Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with APEGA.
• PMP designation with 5 years in project management.
• 8+ years of engineering practice in analysis and design of bridges and transportation structures.
• Experience with CHBDC and AREMA codes.
• Proficient in SAP 2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS and MS Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Act as Engineer of Record (EoR) for assigned bridge projects, providing technical oversight and professional accountability for engineering deliverables.
• Manage and coordinate engineering projects through all phases (design, procurement, construction, commissioning).
• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
• Monitor progress and mitigate risks.
• Be on construction sites to monitor progress and ensure safety and on-site coordination.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
• Prepare and maintain project documentation and technical specifications.
• Support problem-solving and technical decision-making during execution.
• Communicate project updates to stakeholders and senior management.

Education

Civil Engineering degree (preferably Structural major)

Job Description Overview

In Canada, our Bridge department has offices in Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, and Québec City. AtkinsRéalis also has a large international presence with over 700 bridges professionals globally, and involvement in some of the most complex structures in the world. The Bridges Department – Western Region, is looking for a project engineer (Bridges) for our team in Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will act as Engineer of Record (EoR) on assigned projects, assuming professional responsibility for engineering deliverables and technical decisions.

Your role

• Act as Engineer of Record (EoR) for assigned bridge projects, providing technical oversight and professional accountability for engineering deliverables.
• Manage and coordinate engineering projects throughout all phases (design, procurement, construction, and commissioning)
• Develop project schedules, budgets, and resource plans
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, procurement, operations, and external stakeholders)
• Monitor project progress and performance, identifying and mitigating risks
• Be regularly present on construction sites to monitor progress, ensure compliance with safety standards, and coordinate on-site activities.
• Ensure compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements
• Prepare and maintain project documentation, reports, and technical specifications
• Support problem-solving and technical decision-making during project execution
• Communicate project updates to stakeholders and senior management

About you

• Degree in Civil Engineering (preferably with a Structural major).
• Registered as Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation with 5 years in project management.
• 8+ years of experience in engineering practice in analysis and design of various types of bridge and transportation structures; railway structures is an asset.
• Demonstrated experience working in a multi-disciplinary team delivering projects with variety of complexity, type of bridge, size and scope.
• Experience with the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC) and the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) Code.
• Proficient in SAP 2000, CSI Bridge, MIDAS and Microsoft Office applications.
