Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Project Engineer in Western Canada to lead multi-discipline design teams across electrical, civil, mechanical, and structural domains on large utilities projects. The role focuses on technical leadership, client alignment, and safe, compliant design delivery.

Hybrid work arrangements are offered with Burnaby, BC as a key location. Candidates should have 12+ years of engineering experience and 4+ years leading teams, plus a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering

• Prepare and review technical reports, presentations, standards, specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Lead and coordinate multi-discipline design teams for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring cross-domain integration.
• Resolve highly technical design or field engineering issues by conducting independent studies and exercising judgment.
• Assist project/operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives; review contractor payments and progress reports.
• Contribute to development of technical standards and ensure safe operations within the network.
• Provide guidance and technical advice to other engineering professionals.

Stantec’s Energy team in western Canada is currently offering exciting opportunities for Senior Project Engineer to work on a variety of utilities projects throughout Western Canada. This technical leadership role is ideal for someone with a passion for leading a large group of engineers from different disciplines.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Ensure client expectations related to project scope are clearly understood, met, and exceeded.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to team members; foster initiative, collaboration, and professional growth.

• Project Leadership: Lead and coordinate multi-discipline design teams for medium to large-scale projects, ensuring integration across structural, mechanical, civil, and electrical domains.
• Technical Problem Solving: Resolve highly technical and unusual design or field engineering issues by conducting independent studies and exercising expert judgment.
• Management Support: Assist project and operations management in meeting safety, cost, quality, and time objectives. This includes proposing plan changes, reviewing contractor payment requests, and preparing detailed progress reports.
• Standards & Compliance: Contribute to the development of technical standards and ensure all engineering designs support successful, safe operations within the network.
• Mentorship: Provide guidance and technical advice to other engineering professionals.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Experience in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, & Bluebeam/Adobe Acrobat.
• Previous experience working with or at BC Hydro is an asset.
• Willing and able to travel occasionally when required.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, efficient, and a good communicator.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Excellent communication abilities with a keen eye for detail. Ability to work with others in a collaborative team environment.
• Engineering expertise across the total project life cycle, from conceptual design through to testing and commissioning.
• Valid driver’s license.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 12+ years progressive and comprehensive engineering experience.
• 4+ years of experience leading multi-discipline design teams on large, complex projects.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with a range of internal and external customers.

Office Location and Schedule

• Typical office environment working with computers.
• Stantec offers a flexible work environment (a hybrid model of working in the office and at home).
• Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range:

Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$111,700.00 - $167,600.00 Annually

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
