Job summary

A leading construction firm located in Toronto is seeking a Project Coordinator to support senior project management and ensure project objectives are met. The candidate will assist in planning, scheduling, budget analysis, and maintain client relations. A degree in construction management or electrical engineering and over 5 years of project coordination experience in the utilities sector are essential. Proficiency in MS Office and AutoCAD is required, along with a valid Ontario 'G' driver’s license.

ABOUT THIS CAREER OPPORTUNITY

Black & McDonald’s Southern Ontario Utilities team is growing! The Project Coordinator is located on site and typically reports directly to the Project Manager.

Senior Project Coordinators plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate assigned project(s) from start to finish and in accordance with schedule, specifications and budget. Their primary focus is safety, planning, monitoring progress, scheduling, quality, costs management, estimating, reporting, and managing project change under the direction of senior leadership.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the Project Manager on projects to ensure project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards are in accordance with company policy and contract specifications are met
  • Assist the Project Manager on field reports to ensure the reports are submitted to the Clients on time and invoices are processed on a monthly basis
  • Comply with all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Assist in planning and preparing construction schedules and milestones, and monitor progress against established timelines
  • Complete quantity takes offs from construction drawings, track and update as-built quantities and field verify when required
  • Assist in preparing contracts and negotiate revisions, changes and additions to contractual agreements with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
  • Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes and impacts
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs
  • Build and maintain customer and supplier/vendor relationships.
  • Prepare progress reports and issue progress schedules to clients
  • Trade and subcontractor coordination
  • Document control, RFIs, transmittal, QA/QC, Environmental, site safety administration, project drawings management
  • Purchase supplies and materials as required to complete project
  • Procore construction use
  • Timesheet entry
  • Assist in site set up support and project close out documentation

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Degree or Diploma in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering Technology, or Electrical Engineering
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ years of Project Coordination experience in the construction sector working on Utilities/Substation projects
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Proficient knowledge and understanding of:

  • Contract management
  • Construction scheduling, planning, and execution
  • Blue print reading
  • Experience with AutoCAD
  • Project electrical, mechanical and structural design interpretation, field mark-up documentation
  • Financial statements – read and comprehend
  • Organization and time management
Proficient user of:
  • MS Office (Word, Excel, Project)
  • JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system
  • Valid Ontario "G" Driver’s License is required
