Where others see a simple need for grocery delivery, we see exciting complexity and endless opportunity to serve the varied needs of our community. We work to deliver an essential service that customers rely on to get their groceries and household goods, while also offering safe and flexible earnings opportunities to Instacart Personal Shoppers.

Instacart has become a lifeline for millions of people, and we’re building the team to help push our shopping cart forward. If you’re ready to do the best work of your life, come join our table.

Instacart is a Flex First team

There’s no one-size fits all approach to how we do our best work. Our employees have the flexibility to choose where they do their best work—whether it’s from home, an office, or your favorite coffee shop—while staying connected and building community through regular in-person events. Learn more about our flexible approach to where we work.

Overview

Instacart’s Platform team powers the foundational capabilities behind our marketplace and Storefront Pro, including order management, pricing and discounting, loyalty, fraud, and customer experience. We’re hiring a Global Payments Product Manager to lead the strategy and execution of our payments platform that supports our four-sided marketplace of customers, shoppers, retailers, and advertisers.

In this role, you will optimize our end-to-end payment stack to improve authorization rates, reduce cost of payments, and scale a resilient multi-PSP architecture across existing and new markets. You’ll work closely with engineering, data, finance, operations, legal, and compliance internally, and with external partners such as PSPs (e.g., Stripe, Adyen, Braintree) and card networks (Visa/Mastercard). This is a high-impact opportunity to shape how money moves at Instacart—covering unique use cases like EBT and health-related payments, post-order modifications and substitutions, shopper payouts, and Instacart+ subscriptions.

If you thrive in a fast-paced, highly cross-functional environment and love solving complex, global-scale payments challenges, this role offers the chance to deliver measurable improvements to reliability, conversion, cost, and customer experience.

About the Job
  • Own the global payments roadmap and strategy across authorization, routing, retries, tokenization, chargebacks/disputes, and refunds/partial captures, with clear KPIs for conversion, cost, latency, and reliability.
  • Design and scale a multi-PSP platform, including smart routing, failover, experimentation frameworks, and performance monitoring to continuously improve auth rates and reduce processing costs.
  • Expand payment methods in the US and internationally, including wallets, local payment methods, EBT SNAP, HSA/FSA, and other emerging options, ensuring compliance with regional and network requirements.
  • Partner closely with engineering (working with approximately 10–20 engineers) to define PRDs, scope systems, manage delivery timelines, and uphold high standards for availability, security, and PCI compliance.
  • Collaborate across Platform, Fraud, Order Management, Loyalty, Pricing/Discounting, Shopper (for payouts), and Instacart+ (for subscriptions) to support nuanced flows like post-order changes, substitutions, partial captures, and disbursements.
  • Manage external relationships with PSPs and card networks—driving performance reviews, negotiating favorable terms, running vendor evaluations, and ensuring SLAs and compliance are consistently met.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years of product management experience, including 3+ years focused on payments, ecommerce, or financial platform products.
  • Proven track record optimizing payment stacks at scale, including improving authorization rates, reducing processing costs, and integrating or scaling multi-PSP platforms.
  • Hands‑on experience delivering core payments capabilities such as routing and retries, tokenization/vaulting, 3DS/payer authentication, chargebacks/disputes, and refunds/partial captures.
  • Proficiency with data and experimentation (e.g., SQL and analytics tools) to define KPIs, diagnose issues, and drive A/B tests or holdouts that inform product decisions.
  • Demonstrated success working cross‑functionally with engineering, operations, finance, legal, and compliance, as well as externally with PSPs and card networks.
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS, card network rules, and regional payments regulations and privacy standards.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, computer science, or a related field; equivalent practical experience considered.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building for multi‑side marketplaces and/or core platform domains such as order management systems, loyalty programs, pricing/discounting, fraud prevention, or subscription models.
  • Familiarity with EBT SNAP, HSA/FSA, wallets, BNPL, and local payment methods across international markets.
  • Experience managing PSP/vendor relationships, advocating for product needs, and negotiating commercial terms.
  • Background supporting payouts/disbursements for contractors or shoppers and related reconciliation flows.
  • MBA or advanced technical/strategy degree.
