Job description

Our client is a Quebec-based cleantech company in the process of going to market after completing a successful first round of financing. Offering a robust technology solution for building material manufacturers, our client facilitates technology transfer and startup at the customers site and provides equipment, technical support, and ongoing development for their technology and product. They are looking for a senior engineer to become the customer-facing technical lead on their flagship products operation, design, manufacture, installation, and performance.

The incumbent will work with internal and external stakeholders to learn the ins and outs of the product and work closely with the project manager to help resolve any technical issues, whether at the sales, design, manufacturing, installation, or upgrade stage. Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, they will become the point person for the technical rooms, a key component in the technology transfer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in design review
  • Work with the design firms, analyze plans and drawings, and challenge proposed concepts
  • Work with the project manager and sales team in the pre-sales stage to troubleshoot and respond to technical requests
  • At the project managers request, support the installation teams at the customers site
  • Analyze the performance of equipment in operation and suggest changes and design improvements
  • Work with the subcontractors that make the equipment to optimize costs, quality, lead times, and performance
  • Help organize the engineering department and propose work processes and tools to optimize performance and sustain growth

TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering or a related field and preferably be a member of Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec or eligible to become one
  • Have 12 to 15 years of experience in the development, design, production, and commissioning of industrial equipment
  • Have proven expertise in project management and design review
  • Be a team player with good interpersonal skills
  • Be adept at reading plans and using a CAD program
  • Have advanced knowledge of mechanical design
  • Be adaptable and eager to learn
  • Be comfortable working in a startup culture at a fast-paced growth company
  • Be able to work in French an English
