Job summary

SLR Consulting (Americas) invites a Senior Process Engineer to join our North American mine waste engineering team. You will contribute to tailings dewatering and paste backfill design, driving sustainability and efficiency in underground mining and surface disposal, with emphasis on current industry guidelines.

The role requires strong written and verbal communication, independence, and collaboration with clients and contractors, plus a safety-first mindset. Travel up to 10% may be involved.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience in the mining industry.
  • 5 years of operational experience at a mineral processing facility.
  • Familiar with NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC and related reporting codes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for studies within a multi-disciplinary mining team.
  • Develop backfill concepts for planners up to executive level clients.
  • Mentor and direct project engineers and drafting team.
  • Conduct economic evaluation of plant solutions.

Role

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will play an important role on our North American mine waste engineering team. The role involves contributing to the design of tailings dewatering and paste backfill strategies, driving both sustainability and efficiency in underground mining and tailings surface disposal. You’ll bring experience and understanding of current industry trends and guidelines on design, estimation, planning, as well as an interest in working collaboratively to find solutions to complex and interesting problems. Success in this role will require exceptional written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and effectively with co-workers, clients, and contractors, and a “safety-first” attitude.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership for engineering studies within a multi-disciplinary team, leveraging experience and competencies in a range of mining operations.
  • Contribute, through innovative and entrepreneurial thinking and strategic aptitude, in developing backfill concepts that will be presented to planners up to senior executive/corporate level clients.
  • Provide technical direction to project engineers and mentoring young engineers.
  • Conduct economic valuation of different plant solutions.
  • Manage technical work to meet scope, time and budget.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in writing and review of proposals and project reports.
  • Demonstrate competency in MS Office software, Experience with MS Project, AutoCAD, and Deswik is desirable.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the drafting team to generate drawings, schematics alongside the associated discipline engineers for support on proposals and plant design/build opportunities.
  • Perform field work, data analysis and calculations.
  • Support the implementation of plant design standards across project delivery and engineering disciplines.
  • Support the preparation of technical documentation including design criteria, calculations, process flowsheets, P&IDs, control philosophy's, reports etc.
  • Support commercial activities, including writing, reviewing proposals, estimates and quotations.
  • Periodically travel to site to support business development activities, including inspections, audits and design/build opportunities.
  • Periodically travel to technical conferences or conventions to support business development activities.

  • The salary range for this position is $150,000-$180,000.
  • Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.

Qualifications/Education/Memberships
  • 10+ years experience in the mining industry.
  • 5 years of operational experience at a mineral processing facility.
  • Understanding of impacts of mineralogy on processes and material properties.
  • Experience in dewatering technologies and interpreting testwork results in scaling and sizing of equipment.
  • Registered or qualified for registration as a Professional Engineer in Canada or the equivalent in the USA, UK, Australia, or South Africa.
  • Familiar with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including NI 43-101, JORC, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports etc.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the domestically and internationally up to 10% of your time as required.
  • Fluency in any of Spanish/French/Portuguese languages would be advantageous.
