Job description
Overview

The Hydrogen Infrastructure group is a technical leader in the design, construction, and operation of compressed hydrogen fueling infrastructure solutions – these include stationary, semi-permanent, and mobile refueling stations, light-weight tube trailers, and station testing and certification equipment. We pioneered the design of turnkey, containerized hydrogen fueling station packages. Other firsts include the world’s first 700 bar “fast-fill” hydrogen refueling station and the first hydrogen station capable of fueling four fuel cell vehicles simultaneously.

Responsibilities

The Senior Process engineer will work with a team of engineers, software programmers, technicians, and fabricators to improve our existing hydrogen fueling stations and develop new products. In this multidisciplinary environment, you will be involved in engineering design, process improvements, testing, quality control, and optimization. The position will have a range of responsibilities including liaising with customers and suppliers, engineering design, and project management.

  • Perform process and/or mechanical design of hydrogen refueling equipment.
  • Oversee and assist engineers and drafters with mechanical and process designs and drawings.
  • Perform detailed process calculations required for equipment design and sizing.
  • Oversee and assist technicians involved in the construction and testing of the hydrogen fueling stations.
  • Manage project schedules and ensure quality control and safety of the process and design.
  • Develop standardized processes and technical procedures that will improve the efficiency of operations.
  • Work with systems, mechanical and Electrical teams to define requirements. Develop standardized processes and technical procedures.
  • Assist with sourcing of project materials and components.
  • Support the testing, commissioning, and remote support of hydrogen refueling equipment.
  • Engage effectively with multiple contractors and customers to ensure the highest level of customer service is achieved.
  • Maintain professional relationships with other departments, outside consultants, contractors and suppliers in order to gather and relay information and resolve issues of concern.
  • Consistently demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration skills with the hydrogen infrastructure team.
  • Foster relationships across Powertech to utilize all the company’s resources for our clients.
  • Review and align with the broader corporate objectives such as safety, quality and environment management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, Mechanical or equivalent Engineering from a recognized university.
  • Minimum of 8 years related experience in a design engineering and design for manufacturing and assembly and test experience in a production environment.
  • Registration (or ability to immediately register as a Professional engineer with the Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (i.e., non-British Columbia registrations are acceptable as long as there is an ability to immediately transfer the accreditation).
  • Must hold a valid class5 BC driver's license.
Additional Skills
  • AutoCAD and/or 3D CAD Design (Solidworks or similar).
  • Preparing technical specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of pressure vessel and piping codes.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering drawings standards.
  • Experienced with CRN application requirements and Canadian safety authority regulations for pressure piping, fittings, and pressure vessels.
  • Fluids and thermodynamics design and calculations.
  • Development of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Pressure piping design experience.
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical and control systems.
  • Experience participating in HAZOP studies or other risk assessments.
  • Hydrogen or other high pressure gas experience and hazardous area design will be considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with hydrogen fueling codes will be considered an asset.
Selection Process

As part of the selection process, applicants may be required to complete a written test/ assessment and/or a presentation as part of the interview process. Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be required as a pre-condition to employment.
