We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Electrical Engineer, Power Generation, to our dynamic team in one of our British Columbia offices, supporting fossil fuel power generation projects across North America. The successful candidate will provide both engineering/design services and Owner’s Engineer consulting services, supporting projects from conceptual design through construction and commissioning.

What you can expect to do here:
  • Lead and contribute to electrical engineering design for thermal power generation projects from concept through commissioning.
  • Support and deliver OE consulting services for client projects, ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory standards.
  • Perform and lead electrical system studies including load flow, short circuit, coordination, arc flash, and grounding.
  • Develop specifications, perform calculations, and lead the procurement of major electrical equipment such as generators, switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS systems, and protection relays.
  • Interface with multidisciplinary teams to address electrical requirements within mechanical and process equipment packages.
  • Support development and review of purchase orders, manage supplier interfaces, support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), and ensure supplier quality compliance.
  • Provide construction and commissioning support, including field issue resolution, punch list development, and startup support.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with both Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and National Electrical Code (NEC) as required for various project locations.
  • Prepare and review technical documentation, including single‑line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, equipment layouts, and reports.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, vendors, project managers, and team members.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate engineers.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Minimum of 8‑12 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering for power generation facilities.
  • Strong technical knowledge of power island equipment, high‑voltage substations, power distribution systems, and BOP systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with CEC and NEC standards.
  • Proficient in electrical system modeling and analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, EasyPower).
  • Experienced with procurement processes, vendor coordination, FATs, and construction support.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing high‑quality technical reports and specifications.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically across the US and Canada for site visits and meetings.
  • Previous experience in an Owner’s Engineer or consulting role.
  • Experience in both greenfield and brownfield power generation projects.
  • Familiarity with North American utility interconnection requirements.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and mentorship skills.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $124,800 – $171,600

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
