The Department promotes sustainable development and manages onshore and offshore energy resources through legislation, regulations, and cross-jurisdictional partnerships. Our work also includes marine and environmental science, energy storage solutions, geothermal, and environmental conservation and protection.
We are seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to join the Marine Renewables Division. This is a key position within the Department of Energy responsible for providing leadership on a variety of projects that support the Province’s efforts to develop offshore wind energy and tidal energy.
The Senior Policy Analyst will develop and advise on complex strategies, legislation, regulations, policies, programs, and major initiatives related to marine renewable energy. This position plays a lead role in managing partnerships and collaborating with government, First Nations, the marine renewable energy industry, research organizations and academia, and stakeholders to advance Nova Scotia’s marine renewable energy sector. This position also provides substantive support in broader areas of marine renewable energy research and development.
As the Senior Policy Analyst, you will be responsible for leading policy development, coordinating research and analyses, managing projects, and strategic planning related to marine renewable energy. You will use your ability to analyze and synthesize information to provide recommendations to senior-level departmental. You can expect to:
This may be the right opportunity for you if you have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study along with six years of relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of training and relevant work experience.
You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of marine renewable energy and the Province's policies, targets, and plans related to marine renewable energy. You will have a strong understanding of the legislative frameworks to enable marine renewable energy development in Nova Scotia, the regulatory frameworks for licensing and permitting marine renewable energy projects, policies used in other jurisdictions to advance marine renewable energy, and the potential impacts of marine renewable energy.
You will have strong skills in policy analysis, project management, research, and engagement. Relevant work experience (e.g., policy analysis,economic analysis,legislative and regulatory review, stakeholder engagement, marine spatial planning, impact assessment, licensing and permitting, etc.) related to the marine environment, marine renewable energy, research and monitoring, electricity planning, social and economic assessment, and/or natural resource development would be an asset.
As the ideal candidate, you will have previous experience managing projects and/or administrating programs withinthedesired cost, time, and quality parameters, analyzing information and data from multiple sources to draw appropriate conclusions and make suitable recommendations, and using networks and working relationships within and outside of your organization to facilitate the integration of analysis into the development of policies and planning.
You work with a high degree of independent judgement and initiative, with the ability to identify emerging issues, develop innovative concepts, and communicate them effectively both in writing and verbally. You have strong leadership, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.

Salary Range: $3,410.48- $4,005.58Bi-Weekly
