Job summary

NHS Fife seeks an experienced Senior Pharmacy Technician to join the Primary Care Pharmacy Team. Based at Stratheden Hospital, Cupar, you will work across 11 GP practices in North East Fife to ensure safe, effective pharmacotherapy services and direct collaboration with GP teams and patients.

The role involves clinical and operational duties, medicines reconciliation, prescribing support, and a focus on service improvement within Primary Care settings.

Qualifications

• Be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council as a practicing Pharmacy Technician.
• Hold NC in Pharmaceutical Science and SVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services.
• Hold a recognised Pharmacy Technician Accuracy Checking qualification.
• Hold the PDA in the Assessment and Supply of Individual Patients’ Medicines, or equivalent.
• Be willing to work towards SCQF Level 7 or 8.
• Have post‑registration experience in a Primary Care GP General Practice setting.
• Experience in supporting, training or mentoring staff.
• Able to travel independently between the 11 GP practices in North East Fife.

Responsibilities

• Undertake medicines reconciliation after hospital discharge and other transitions of care.
• Review and process acute prescription requests within agreed protocols.
• Support serial prescribing processes and review Treatment Summary Reviews.
• Undertake medication and adherence reviews for identified patient groups.
• Respond to medicines-related queries from patients, carers, GP practice staff, and other health professionals.
• Support prescribing audits and service improvement projects.
• Provide advice to support safe, effective use of medicines.
• Liaise with GP practices, community pharmacies, hospital colleagues and care homes.
• Conduct face-to-face reviews in GP practices and patients’ homes when required.
• Contribute to SOPs and standard operating procedures.
