Senior Payroll Administrator

Senior Payroll Administrator to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing across multiple provinces, countries, and diverse business lines. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, and demonstrates strong communication skills with a service-focused approach.

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Payroll Administrator to lead complex payroll matters, support policy development, and drive process improvements. The role will lead complex payroll matters, support policy development, and drive process improvements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee bi-weekly and weekly payroll pre-commit audits for all pay groups, providing leadership and guidance throughout the payroll cycle.
  • Enter and approve Quick Entry (QE) forms in Ceridian Dayforce via Payroll Import Tool (PIT).
  • Review payroll data for discrepancies (e.g., negative balances, rate mismatches).
  • Coordinate manual check imports, off-cycle requests, ROEs, and stop payment cases with Ceridian.
  • Prepare, review, and post payroll-related journal entries to the accounting system.
  • Audit Dayforce timesheets and reconcile variances between systems.
  • Review negative YTD balances and process adjustments.
  • Investigate unusual transactions (e.g., invalid payouts, duplicate entries).
  • Act as lead for issue resolution and error correction in collaboration with HR/Operations.
  • Serve as primary contact for payroll-related inquiries via email and Microsoft Teams.
  • Partner with HR teams to resolve employee data issues and pay group assignments.
  • Respond to Service Canada and Ceridian cases promptly and accurately.
  • Prepare and review payroll reports, including PIER, GL journal entries, and earnings summaries.
  • Lead reconciliation between Dayforce and third-party systems (e.g., Cohesion).
  • Manage quarterly and year-end processes, including calendar setup and discrepancy resolution.
  • Collaborate with Accounting on payroll reconciliations (e.g., WCB, EHT, GL accounts).
  • Participate in configuration and implementation of new pay codes, rules, and holiday policies.
  • Manage wage updates, minimum wage adjustments, and annual increases.
  • Lead responses for external audits (financial statements, worker’s compensation).
  • Develop and maintain payroll training materials; mentor junior team members.
Other Duties
  • Process final payouts for retiring or departing salaried managers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and Ceridian Managed Services to resolve issues.
  • Identify and implement process enhancements for efficiency.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Payroll Manager.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive payroll experience.
  • Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems; Ceridian Dayforce experience preferred.
  • In-depth understanding of payroll legislation, compliance, and reporting.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and mentor team members.
  • Proactive, detail-oriented, and solution-driven.
