CIMA+ is seeking a Senior Protection & Control (P&C) / SCADA Engineer to lead design and review of P&C and SCADA systems for major utility projects across Canada. You’ll develop protective schemes, SCADA architectures, and I/O configurations while coordinating with multi-disciplinary teams.

You will mentor junior engineers, ensure deliverables meet client specs, and participate in commissioning and field activities, contributing to the energy transition.

Qualifications

• 12+ years in electrical power systems design.
• 8+ years in detailed P&C and SCADA for utilities.
• P.Eng. or eligible for registration with a Canadian provincial association.
• Fluent in English with strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and technical review of P&C and SCADA systems for major utility projects.

AsaSeniorProtection and Control (P&C) / SCADA Engineer, you will beworking witha team of P&C and SCADA detailed designersand contribute to large-scale electrical energy projects. You will evolve in a multidisciplinary environment and develop skills by collaborating with experienced professionals, particularly on substation, hydroelectric power station, and renewable energy projects, withnumeriousclients across Canada.

Primary Responsibilities

• System Design & Development: Lead the design and technical review of Protection & Control (P&C) and SCADA systems for major utility and industrial power projects. Responsible for developing comprehensive electrical P&C packages, including single-line diagrams (SLDs), three-line AC diagrams, protection and D.C. control diagrams, logic/interlock diagrams, alarm/indication lists, wiring drawings, device connection drawings, assembly plans, panel layouts, and material lists/quotes for panel manufacturing and site installation.
• Studies, Relay Settings & Coordination: Perform short-circuit calculations, protection coordination studies, relay settings, and custom logic file configurations across modern multi-vendor Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs).
• SCADA & Network Architecture: Design SCADA network architectures, I/O point schematics and lists, DNP3/Modbus memory maps, and gateway configurations utilizing standard industry protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850, Modbus).
• Station Service Systems Supervision: Supervise the design and sizing calculations for AC and DC auxiliary power systems, including AC/DC single-line diagrams, distribution schematics, AC/DC load calculations, and connection drawings for battery chargers, battery banks, inverters, and switchboards.
• Deliverable Approval & QA/QC Ownership: Review and approve project engineering deliverables, including detail design drawings, P&C SLDs, panel layouts, cable schedules, equipment sizing, SCADA network topologies, and I/O schematics. Prepare project plans, drawings, and design calculations based on client specifications.
• Interdisciplinary Leadership & Coordination: Serve as the dedicated P&C/SCADA Project Engineer coordinating seamlessly with internal discipline leads (equipment, civil, structural, mechanical, building) and external project managers to develop optimized design solutions for advanced substation and power plant systems.
• Engineering Mentorship & Technical Oversight: Supervise the work and deliverables of junior engineers and technical staff, providing active mentorship, technical direction, and quality assurance.
• Compliance, Commissioning & Field Support: Prepare commissioning specifications, field review plans, and NERC-CIP compliance documentation. Participate in station site surveys and execute sporadic field site work during startup, monitoring, or system energization phases.

Qualifications

• Education: University Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Professional Registration: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) or another recognized Canadian provincial engineering association (e.g., APEGA, PEO).

Experience:

• 12+ years of total relevant engineering experience in the design of electrical power systems.
• 8+ years of specialized experience in detailed P&C and SCADA design with major or local electric utilities in Canada.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep, mandatory knowledge of utility protection philosophies, control schemes, SCADA network principles, and substation automation architectures.
• Language & Communication: Fluent in English with strong oral and written technical communication skills.
• Software Tools: Proficiency with core office productivity tools (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook), CAD software, and industry-standard protection/power system modeling tools.
• Professional Attributes: Highly autonomous and resourceful team player with strong leadership ability, high integrity, team spirit, and an unwavering commitment to engineering excellence and safety.
