Job summary

CIMA+ in Western Canada is seeking a Senior Protection and Control (P&C) Engineer to join its Energy & Resources team. You will be working with P&C detailed designers on large-scale electrical energy projects across Canada, with focus on substations, hydroelectric plants, and renewables.

You will design and review protection and control systems, prepare drawings and calculations, participate in site surveys, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • University Degree in Electrical engineering.
  • More than 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Good knowledge of protection and control principles.
  • Experience in electrical systems design.
  • 4+ years in detailed P&C design with major utilities in Canada.
  • Fluent in English (oral and written).
  • Autonomous, resourceful, and enjoys teamwork.
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review Control and Protection systems for utility and industry projects.
  • Approve and review deliverables, including detail design drawings, P&C one line diagrams, panel layouts, cables schedule and equipment sizing.
  • Collaborate with engineering team and project managers from other disciplines.
  • Prepare project plans, drawings and calculations based on specifications.
  • Develop electrical Control and Protection systems including single-line diagrams and wiring drawings.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines to develop optimized substation and power plant designs.
  • Perform protection coordination studies and relay settings.
  • Site work may be required for startup or monitoring.

AsaSeniorProtection and Control (P&C) Engineer, you will beworking witha team of P&C detailed designersand contribute to large-scale electrical energy projects. You will evolve in a multidisciplinary environment and develop skills by collaborating with experienced professionals, particularly on substation, hydroelectric power station, and renewable energy projects, withnumerousclients across Canada.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Design and review Control and Protection systemsfor both utility and industry projects
  • Approveand reviewproject deliverables, including detaildesigndrawings,P&Cone linediagrams,panellayouts,cablescheduleandequipment sizing, etc.
  • Collaborate with members of the engineering team as well as project managers from other disciplines
  • Prepareprojectplans, drawings and calculations based on specifications provided
  • Responsible of the development of electricalControland Protection systems, including single-line diagrams, logic diagrams, three-line AC diagrams,protectionand c.c. control diagrams, wiring drawings, device connection drawings, assembly plans, material lists and quotes for the manufacturing and installation on site of Control and Protection panels
  • Supervise the development of AC and DC power systems, including single-line diagrams, AC & DC load calculations, AC & DC distribution diagrams, connection drawings of chargers, batteries, inverter, etc.
  • Participate in site surveys (stations and power stations)
  • Coordinating with other discipline as the Protection and control project engineer
  • Performing protection coordination study, relaysettingsand logic files
  • Supervising on the joiner engineers work and deliverables and provideguidanceto them
  • Prepare commissioning specifications, field review plan and andNERC CIPdocuments
  • Coordinate with engineering disciplines: equipment, civil,mechanicaland buildingin order todevelop design solutions for optimized and advanced substation and power plant systems
  • Possibility of carrying out site work sporadically when the opportunity arises (start-up or monitoring)
Qualifications
  • University Degree in Electrical engineering
  • Registered (or eligible to register as) member of Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EBGC) or that of a recognized Professional Engineering Association in Canada
  • More than12years of relevant experience
  • Good knowledge of protection and control principles and philosophies is mandatory
  • Work experience in the design of electrical systems
  • 4+years experiencein detailed P&C design with major and/or local utilities in Canada
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)
  • Basic knowledge of the office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Autonomous, resourceful, and enjoys teamwork
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence
