Job summary

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. in Winnipeg, MB, is seeking a Senior Oracle APEX and Database Administrator to design, administer, and optimize Oracle databases and APEX/ORDS environments across DEV, QA, and PROD.

The role collaborates with DBA, middleware, and application teams to ensure high availability, security, and performance, while contributing to automation and CI/CD pipelines for database deployments.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Oracle databases across multiple environments (DEV, QA, PROD).
• Install, upgrade, patch, and migrate Oracle databases; implement backup/recovery and DR solutions.
• Monitor performance, tune SQL/memory/storage; manage security, roles, and access controls.
• Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle APEX/ORDS; manage schemas, users, and workspaces.
• Coordinate with WebLogic or application servers; support deployments and lifecycle management.
• Provide Tier 3 support for database and APEX incidents; troubleshoot complex issues.
• Develop automation scripts for deployments, monitoring, and maintenance; contribute to CI/CD pipelines.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Oracle APEX and Database Administrator to support and enhance enterprise database platforms and Oracle APEX application environments. This role will be responsible for the design, administration, performance optimization, and lifecycle management of Oracle databases and APEX/ORDS platforms supporting critical business applications.

The successful candidate will work closely with DBA, middleware, and application teams to ensure high availability, performance, and security of systems across development, QA, and production environments.

Key Responsibilities

Oracle Database Administration

• Manage and maintain Oracle databases (19c and newer) across multiple environments
• Perform database installations, upgrades, patching, and migrations
• Implement backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery solutions
• Monitor database performance and tune SQL, memory, and storage
• Manage database security, roles, and access controls
• Support PDB/CDB architecture, and database consolidation strategies

Oracle APEX / ORDS Administration

• Install, configure, and upgrade Oracle APEX and ORDS environments
• Manage APEX schemas, users, and workspace configurations
• Support APEX application deployments and lifecycle management
• Troubleshoot APEX performance, session management, and runtime issues
• Configure ORDS connections, pools, and security integration
• Support integration between APEX and enterprise systems (e.g., APIs, EBS, middleware)

Environment & Infrastructure Management

• Manage multi-environment setups (DEV, QA, PROD)
• Support WebLogic or application server configurations for APEX/ORDS
• Coordinate database and application upgrades with cross-functional teams
• Maintain environment consistency and deployment standards
• Support capacity planning and performance testing initiatives

  Operational Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide Tier 3 support for database and APEX incidents
  • Troubleshoot complex issues including:
  • Database performance degradation
  • APEX application errors
  • ORDS connectivity and configuration issues
  • Monitor system health and proactively resolve issues
  • Participate in on-call rotations and incident response

  Automation & Process Improvement

  • Develop automation scripts for deployments, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Improve DBA operational processes and documentation
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for database and APEX deployments
  • Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience with PostgreSQL and MySQL is nice to have

  Additional Responsibilities

  • Develop automation scripts for deployments, monitoring, and maintenance
  • Improve DBA operational processes and documentation
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines for database and APEX deployments
  • Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements

  Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (OCI preferred)
  • Familiarity with enterprise monitoring tools and automation frameworks
  • Experience supporting APEX in high-availability, multi-instance environments

  Pay Range

  • Locations Outside of Lower Mainland - BC & Various locations in Ontario-$89,200.00 - $129,300.00 Annually
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$94,600.00 - $137,100.00 Annually

  Pay Transparency

  In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
