Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a senior environmental qualification engineer to develop and manage EQ programs for nuclear power facilities. The role involves delivering design solutions, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring adherence to CNSC standards and regulatory requirements.

The candidate should have extensive experience in EQ, knowledge of NSP and CANDU designs, and strong project coordination skills.

Qualifications

  • EQ program experience and related fields essential.
  • Identify safety-critical systems and EQ requirements.
  • Understand service conditions for EQ including DBAs.
  • Familiar with CNSC REGDOC-2.5.2 and CSA/IEEE/ASME standards.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams on EQ deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to engineers and staff.
  • Ensure regulatory requirements and quality procedures are met.
  • Support Engineering Management with progress updates.
  • Interface with stakeholders and conduct site visits and meetings.

Your role
  • Developing project plans and procedures for an Environmental Qualification Program for a nuclear power plant.
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international regulations and standards related to Environment Qualification of a nuclear facility.
  • Provide design solutions and assessments for environmentally qualifying new, updated and modified plant systems, structures and components.
  • Prepare and /or review design documents for Nuclear Power Plants.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to engineers at lower grade levels and/or other technical employees.
  • Ensure applicable code, standards and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Ensure adherence to company quality program.
  • Support Engineering Management with timely updates on engineering progress.
  • Interface with internal and external stake holders as required.
  • Perform walkdowns, attend site visits and meetings as required.
About you
  • Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Nuclear, I&C, or a related engineering discipline, with the following additional skills; an advanced degree, such as a PhD, is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience with EQ program and related fields
  • Qualification process, its requirements and results (technical specifications for EQ, requirements for EQ related EQRs, interpretations and acceptance of the environmental qualification results, component EQ status and completeness of EQ documentation.
  • Identification of important to safety systems and their safety functions. Identification of the system's components implementing these functions and their EQ requirements.
  • Identification of service conditions (operating and ambient) for EQ (normal and, and bounding DBAs).
  • Understanding of EQ related characteristics such as accelerated aging, qualified life, replacement period, accident bounding conditions, EQ margins, etc.
  • Knowledge of the development of requirements and approaches to equipment survivability assessment in BDBA states of NPP.
  • Knowledge of CANDU Nuclear Plant design, specifically the NSP.
  • Understanding of safety design philosophy/safety in depth principles of the NPP design.
  • Familiarity with the CNSC current regulatory requirements of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) Regulatory Document REGDOC-2.5.2) and standards related to the Environment Qualification of equipment for nuclear power plants such as Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standard N290.13:18, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standard, 60780-323, American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) standard, ASME QME-1-2023.
  • Understanding of EQ program for new design vs retrofitting/refurbishing of EQ in existing installations.
  • Excellent project coordination and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, gather their input, and complete a large number of EQ deliverables. This role requires a significant amount of coordination and collaboration with other teams such as I&C, Process Engineering, etc., throughout the CANDU® MONARK™ project.
