Job summary

Thumbtack is looking for a Native Engineer on the Partnerships team to bring our partnership vision to life in mobile apps used daily by homeowners and pros. You will work with engineers, product managers, and designers to ship impactful features and deliver great experiences.

The role emphasizes building cross-platform experiences, owning features end-to-end, and navigating platform constraints, with a focus on impact and rapid iteration.

Qualifications

About The Partnerships Team

We're a startup within a startup. We incubate new products and business models to make sure Thumbtack continues to be the most innovative marketplace for homeowners and professionals to get work done. Our team is self-contained and cross functional between engineering, product, design, analytics, growth and marketing. This structure allows us to move fast and experiment with new ideas rapidly. We want to test ideas that will drive net new, high intent Homeowners to Thumbtack with jobs to be done and we'll also encourage the best in class Pros in the Homeservice space to build out their profiles and their businesses on our platform. We will do this by expanding where and how Thumbtack can create value by putting our experience on complementary sites/platforms, integrating into existing workflows, and leveraging third-party offerings to enhance Thumbtack engagement. We are also responsible for maintaining and growing existing lines of business that were previously created within this group which represent a significant percentage of overall revenue.

The challenge

As a Native Engineer on the Partnerships team, you'll bring our partnership vision to life by enhancing the native applications our customers and pros use every day. You'll work closely with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to execute a broad range of projects — from shaping our GenAI integration strategy, to landing integrations with major partners, to delivering high-quality experiences tailored to each partner's specific needs. What You'll Do

• Ship user-facing features end-to-end on mobile, from design handoff through release.
• Build net-new experiences and enhance existing workflows in both the customer and service professional facing Thumbtack applications.
• Work across both iOS and Android when needed, employing first class agentic tools and frontier models to accelerate delivery and make impact on platforms that aren't your primary.
• Work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and backend engineers to scope, build, and iterate on features.

In order to be successful, you must bring

• Fluency with either Android or iOS development.
• Deep hands-on expertise with the modern language and UI stack on at least one platform (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose on Android, or Swift + SwiftUI on iOS), with the judgment to choose the right approach for a given feature..
• 6+ years of industry software experience, with significant time building consumer-facing mobile features..
• Strong product sense - ability to translate product and design requirements into technical implementation, and to weigh in on UX tradeoffs, beyond just executing a spec.
• A track record of owning features through the full lifecycle: experimentation and A/B testing, metrics instrumentation, data-driven iteration, and post-launch support.
• Facility in navigating platform constraints: app store review, OS version support, device fragmentation.

Expected salary ranges

• For candidates living in Ontario and British Columbia, the expected total cash compensation (base salary + variable pay, if applicable) range for the role is currently $180,200.00 - $233,200.00.

Actual offered salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as calibrated job level, qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role.
