Job summary

A leading mining company in Vancouver is seeking a Senior Geologist to join their Geology Department at the Greenstone Mine. The successful candidate will lead mentoring initiatives, ensure the adherence to health and safety standards, and manage key geological operations while collaborating with engineering. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Geology, with at least 5 years of senior experience in open pit mining operations and excellent knowledge of relevant software.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in production Geology in a senior role in an open pit mine.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Open Pit mining operations.
  • Experience with Archean Orogenic gold deposits and their controls.

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring of subordinates to meet departmental objectives.
  • Upholding Health and Safety standards.
  • Approving dig block releases and drill plans.
  • Liaising with Engineering and Mine Operations for guidance.
  • Preparing monthly reconciliations and reports.

Skills

Good knowledge of Open Pit mining operations
Experience with Archean Orogenic gold deposits
Excellent working knowledge of Deswik
Excellent working knowledge of Ore Controller
Excellent working knowledge of LeapFrog
Excellent working knowledge of Studio RM
Excellent working knowledge of OrePro
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Geology or equivalent

Job description

The Greenstone Mine commenced production in May 2024 and will be one of Canada’s largest open-pit gold mines, with annual production expected to average nearly 400,000 ounces of gold per year for an initial 14-year mine life with additional potential from a large underground deposit. Greenstone Gold Mines LP is owned by Equinox Gold Corp, a Vancouver-based mining company with seven other operating mines in the United States, Mexico and Brazil.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent, you will be part of the Geology Department. You will ensure that the Company’s goals and objectives are achieved while promoting and respecting Equinox Gold’s values, Health & Safety Code of Conduct and the environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentoring of subordinates and ensuring that Departmental objectives are met on time
  • Upholding Health and Safety standards
  • Approval or dig block releases
  • Approval of drill and blast plans
  • Approval of bench master plans and providing parameters to Engineering
  • Participation in daily, weekly and monthly planning meetings and approvals of plans
  • Liaising with Engineering and Mine Operations to provide guidance on grade control and Geology
  • Preparing monthly reconciliations
  • Preparing reports, presentations and projects as requested by the Superintendent
  • Filling in different roles as needed during staff shortage periods
  • Preparing Standard Operating Procedures as needed
Required Experience and Skill Set
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Open Pit mining operations.
  • Experience with Archean Orogenic gold deposits and their controls.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology or equivalent.
  • Eligibility to register as PGeo (Ontario).
  • 5+ years of experience in production Geology in a senior role, in an open pit mine;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Deswik, Ore Controller, LeapFrog, Studio RM and OrePro. All Microsoft Office Suite applications, especially Excel.
