Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Metallurgical Engineer for the ERI Metals and Mining Group, based in the Greater Toronto Area or Northern Ontario offices. The role involves planning and executing studies and detailed engineering for new plants and upgrades, with heavy client interaction and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

You will lead design criteria, mass balances, PFDs and P&IDs, develop lab programs, and prepare cost estimates while acting as a Qualified Person and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of relevant experience in metallurgical processes.
• P.ENG license is required or current validity.
• Strong initiative and a rigorous work approach; ability to work across teams.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Senior Metallurgical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team within the ERI Metals and Mining group, based in the Greater Toronto Area or Northern Ontario offices. You will help plan and execute studies and detailed engineering for new processing plants and upgrades to existing facilities.

Your Impact

• Identify client needs and contribute to proposals.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to define project needs and present technical information, concepts, and study outcomes.
• Establish design criteria, develop mass balances, define process flow diagrams, size and select process equipment, and prepare piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
• Develop laboratory test programs, oversee their execution, and analyze resulting data.
• Prepare capital and operating cost estimates.
• Review and produce tender packages, technical specifications, and related engineering documents.
• Act as a Qualified Person (QP) for technical reports.
• Provide supervision and guidance to technicians, drafters, and junior metallurgists.
• Assist project managers and team leads as required.
• Carry out other related tasks that support market growth and successful project delivery.

The Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
• 15+ years of relevant experience in metallurgical processes.
• Current P.ENG license.
• Experience in consulting engineering companies (an asset).
• Strong initiative, attention to detail, and a rigorous work approach.
• Ability to work collaboratively and share expertise across teams.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Bilingualism (English/French, an asset).

Compensation

• AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $135,200 – $179,100
• MB & ON: $123,300 – $169,800
• NB, NL, NS, PEI & QC: $114,900 – $154,800
