This role is the central leader responsible for the quality, strategic coordination, and talent development of our mechanical engineering group. You will be a key decision‑maker, serving as the primary technical authority and senior client relationship manager for large industrial programs. Success is measured by your ability to elevate team performance, ensure seamless cross‑discipline integration (with Electrical, Structural, and Construction Management teams), and deliver technical solutions that guarantee client satisfaction and project profitability.
Leadership & Team Management
- Executive Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and directly manage a large, multi‑office team. Instill a culture of high performance, technical accountability, and continuous professional growth.
- Cross‑Discipline Integration: Act as the primary liaison between the Mechanical group and leaders in Electrical Engineering, Structural Management, and Construction Management, ensuring designs are fully integrated, coordinated, and aligned with site execution strategies.
- Talent Strategy: Drive resource planning, recruitment, and professional development initiatives for the entire mechanical discipline, positioning the team for strategic growth and high utilization.
- Organizational Advocacy: Serve as a visible organizational leader, representing the mechanical function in executive strategic planning, profitability reviews, and overall business development efforts.
Client & Program Delivery Oversight
- Senior Client Engagement: Function as the Executive Project Lead or main point of contact for major client programs, owning the relationship, managing high‑level expectations, and ensuring project outcomes directly support client business goals.
- Governance and Quality Assurance: Maintain ultimate responsibility for the technical quality and integrity of all mechanical deliverables, ensuring projects adhere to rigorous governance standards and exceed client expectations, rather than simply citing specific codes.
- Strategic Project Execution: Partner closely with Project Managers to define scope, secure necessary resources, set high‑level milestones, and control program budgets and schedules across the mechanical scope of work.
- Review and Sign‑Off: As the responsible Professional Engineer (P.Eng in Ontario), review and seal critical engineering documents, specifications, and reports for complex industrial applications.
Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Ontario is mandatory.
- 15+ years of progressive experience in engineering management, with a significant portion spent leading large, complex industrial engineering teams.
- Proven track record of success in client‑facing leadership roles, demonstrating the ability to manage complex client relationships, scope creep, and executive expectations.
- Deep operational familiarity with coordinating major industrial systems (e.g., process piping, complex ventilation, utility systems) and integrating them with structural and electrical infrastructure.
- Exceptional skills in organizational leadership, resource balancing, conflict resolution, and driving accountability across diverse professional groups.
- Experience supporting business growth through technical proposal contribution, estimating, and strategic planning is essential.
