Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership:

    • Working closely with the Project Manager, serve as the technical lead for sonar and/or sonobuoy engineering project(s) assigned from concept through delivery.

    • Responsible for turning RFPs/Statement of Work/Procurement Specifications into a technical resource plan, then monitor, update, and control the plan and team during execution.

    • Drive creation and execution of project schedules, budgets, and resource plans in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Design & Analysis:

    • Design mechanical components for sonar arrays, sonobuoys, and deployment systems using CAD and FEA tools.

    • Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analysis to ensure performance in harsh maritime environments.

  • Integration, Testing & Reporting:

    • Oversee integration of mechanical systems with acoustic sensors and electronics.

    • Plan and execute environmental qualification testing (shock, vibration, pressure, corrosion, and thermal cycling).

    • Prepare test reports, analyze results, and recommend design improvements to meet compliance standards.

  • Technical Leadership:

    • Lead technical discussions for the program, providing guidance on design decisions and risk mitigation.

    • Drive RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action) investigations issues, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.

  • Compliance & Process Monitoring:

    • Ensure adherence to defense industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD, ISO), internal engineering processes, and requirements.

    • Monitor and report on process compliance, supporting quality assurance and configuration management activities.

  • Stakeholder Engagement:

    • Collaborate with internal engineering teams, suppliers, and customers to ensure technical and project objectives are met.

    • Communicate risks, progress, and technical decisions clearly to stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3 years in project engineering roles.

    • Proven experience in the defense industry a strong asset.

  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in CAD and FEA tools required. SolidWorks experience preferred

    • Strong understanding of materials for marine environments, sealing technologies, and corrosion protection.

    • Hands‑on experience with environmental qualification testing and reporting.

    • Familiarity with RCCA processes and structured problem‑solving methodologies.

  • Project Management:

    • Experience with project management tools and methodologies (e.g. Earned Value Management, Agile principles, MS Project, JIRA).

    • PMP certification or equivalent is an asset.

  • Other Requirements:

    • Excellent communication and leadership skills. Eligible for security clearance in Canada.

Typically, Bachelor degree in a related field and 6+ years experience within a relevant complex engineering environment. May be required to maintain security clearance.
