Job summary

Irving Oil is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead projects across Atlantic Canada and U.S. eastern seaboard, delivering fit-for-purpose engineering solutions for refinery and terminal operations.

You will supervise design, calculations, installation, and commissioning while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet safety, reliability, and energy transition goals. The role requires a Mechanical Engineering degree with NB PEng eligibility, 10+ years of experience, and strong

Qualifications

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering with NB PEng (or eligible).
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years with pressure vessels, heat transfer, refractory equipment.
  • 2+ years in petrochemical refining or oil & gas.
  • Experience with project execution and mechanical workflow.
  • Familiar with ASME VIII, ASME BTH-1, API 660 & 661.
  • NBIC repair/alterations, CRN for Canada; NB registration knowledge.
  • Proficient with Compress and NozzlePro.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering work on projects from start to finish.

  • Prepare work orders for installation or repairs.
  • Review 3rd party documents for codes and requirements.

Job description

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Engineering Services team, you will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver a diverse portfolio of capital and expense projects supporting Irving Oil's operations. Your goal will be to provide mechanical engineering expertise that supports the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of Canada’s largest oil refinery, as well as our network of terminal facilities across Atlantic Canada and the U.S. eastern seaboard. Your success will be demonstrated by delivering practical, fit-for-purpose engineering solutions that advance our safety, reliability, production, efficiency, and energy transition objectives, supported by regular field engagement to assess site conditions and inform engineering design decisions.

Your Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute mechanical engineering work on projects from beginning to completion within committed scope, resources, schedule and budget
  • Develop engineering deliverables including calculations (e.g. design of below the hook lifting devices, bolted joint analysis, nozzle loads), preparation of material requisitions for pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, and other mechanical equipment, technical bid analysis, design notes
  • Prepare engineering work orders for installation of new equipment, or modifications and repairs of existing
  • Review and approve 3rd party documents and drawing while assuring compliance with codes and project requirements
  • Supervise and inspect installation modification, and provide construction support and commissioning of engineering systems at construction sites
  • Collaborate and build relationships with Irving Oil operating teams, external contacts and experts
  • Engage in continuous improvement, and identify ways to optimize systems, and procedures
  • Occasional travel to vendor shops and abroad may be required

Your Experience
  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, with PEng certification (or immediate eligibility) in NB is required
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering is required
  • 5+ years of experience with pressure vessels, heat transfer equipment, refractory-lined equipment
  • 2+ years of petrochemical refining or similar oil & gas experience is required
  • Experience with project execution and mechanical workflow within an engineering organization is required
  • Working practical knowledge with industry codes and standards including ASME Section VIII, ASME BTH-1, API 660, API 661
  • Must be familiar with repair, alterations, National Board Inspection Code (NBIC), and CRN registration process for registered pressure equipment/piping in Canada
  • Working knowledge of Compress and NozzlePro is required

The expected salary range for this position is $95,207 - $148,524. Placement within range will be based on relevant experience, qualifications, and skills.
