Overview

Our client is a dynamic engineering consulting firm specializing in optimizing existing buildings to meet energy efficiency and climate goals. Their core focus includes HVAC systems, plumbing, and energy management solutions for commercial, institutional, and healthcare facilities. The client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead building system retrofit and upgrade projects from concept through completion. While a P.Eng designation is preferred, it is not required. The ideal candidate will have a strong engineering mindset, proven project leadership experience, and a passion for sustainable design. Typical project budgets range from $10K to $1M, with an average size around $50K.

Responsibilities
Design & Engineering
  • Develop conceptual designs and detailed cost estimates for building system upgrades
  • Prepare business cases and client reports
  • Lead schematic and detailed design of HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Produce technical specifications and drawings
  • Prepare tender documentation aligned with client requirements
  • Conduct field reviews and provide construction-phase support to ensure design intent is met
Project Management
  • Oversee full project lifecycle including budgeting, resource planning, scheduling, and scope management
  • Manage change orders and contingency planning
  • Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff
Marketing & Business Development
  • Respond to Requests for Proposal (RFPs) with technical submissions
  • Promote the client’s services to existing and prospective clients
  • Potential to lead or develop a specialized service area
Essential Skills
  • 8–15 years of experience in mechanical design and implementation
  • Expertise in existing building systems (boilers, chillers, HVAC)
  • Proven ability to lead retrofit and upgrade projects
  • Experience managing projects ranging from $10K to $1M
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D); Revit and SolidWorks not required
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Familiarity with energy management practices
  • Canadian experience preferred (e.g., WSP, Introba, Rocky Point); international experience considered with local exposure
