Job summary

Moodys Private Client LLP in Calgary, Alberta, Canada seeks a Senior Manager, US Tax to lead US federal and state tax compliance for corporate and partnership clients, including cross-border matters.

Qualifications

  • US CPA designation is required.
  • Minimum 7 years of US tax experience with strong knowledge of US federal corporate income tax law.
  • Experience with US personal tax is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrating understanding of US tax concepts for Corporate and Partnership federal and state tax compliance.
  • Prepare and review US corporate tax returns (Forms 1120, 1120F, 1120-S, 1065, 5471, 5472, FBAR FinCen 114).
  • Conduct federal and state tax research and draft technical memos.
  • Interact with federal and state tax authorities to resolve audits and notices.
  • Plan engagements with junior and senior staff and monitor budgets and billing.
  • Mentor and coach team members toward development and performance.

Job description

The rapidly growing team at Moodys Private Client LLP seek to add a Senior Manager, US Tax to its accounting team in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. The candidate will work with a team of accountants, lawyers and tax professionals. A confident individual who demonstrates initiative and motivation toward continuous improvement of self and firm processes, and who operates with a sense of urgency, and is looking to add value to their clients in a meaningful way is recommended for this position.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Demonstrating an understanding of US tax concepts as they relate to Corporate and Partnership federal and state income tax compliance, including US income tax return review and preparation
  • Preparation and review of US corporate tax returns for clients, including Forms 1120, 1120F, 1120-S, 1065, 5471, 5472, FBAR FinCen 114, and related schedules
  • Conducting federal and state tax research, thoroughly analyzing US cross-border tax issues and drafting technical memos related to specific client matters
  • Utilizing the Canada US Tax Treaty to determine filing positions for cross border clients
  • Interacting with the federal and state tax authorities to assist clients in resolving tax audits, notices and issues
  • Accountable for engagement planning with junior and senior staff members and scheduling as well as project profitability reports (i.e., budgets, WIP, timely billing)
  • Maintain quality control and apply specialized knowledge to anticipate, identify and address issues relevant to the client’s business, financial entries and reports
  • Mentor, motivate and coach team members towards professional and personal development by setting clear expectations, providing 360 feedback and conducting performance reviews
Skills And Experience
  • US CPA designation
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant US tax experience and strong technical knowledge of U.S. federal corporate income tax law
  • Experience with US personal tax is considered an asset
  • Proven people management, relationship building and leadership skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Results-oriented with a sense of urgency. Quick learner, self-starter and exudes a “can do” attitude
