Position Overview

At BDC, the only bank dedicated exclusively to Canadian entrepreneurs, your work will help advance the growth and long-term success of small and medium-sized businesses across the country.

As Senior Manager, Underwriting - Credit Risk Management, you will be accountable for credit due diligence, risk analysis, and the authorization of loan proposals of moderate to high complexity. • Determine appropriate credit terms, pricing, repayment structures, and covenants while applying disciplined credit analysis, balanced risk assessment, and effective account management practices.
  • Review loan documentation and, when required, negotiate transaction structures with internal partners, including account managers and business centre management, to ensure alignment with BDC policies and procedures.
  • Support the resolution of compliance matters and material changes that arise during transaction negotiation and structuring, ensuring appropriate risk mitigation and timely decision-making.
  • Develop practical, well-suited solutions that meet the needs of both the client and BDC by applying sound judgment, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills.
  • Build and maintain trusted working relationships with business centre colleagues and internal partners to foster collaboration, support shared objectives, and promote consistent application of credit policies.
  • Stay current on changes to credit policies, procedures, and processes, as well as emerging credit and regulatory trends that may affect BDC.
  • Provide coaching to new employees, act as a mentor, and actively support knowledge sharing within the team and with internal partners.

  • CPA or CFA designation considered a strong asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in credit analysis, loan adjudication, commercial lending, or a related financial services role.
  • Experience coaching, mentoring, or guiding colleagues in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, structure, and assess commercial financing transactions.
  • Strong credit judgment and a solid understanding of credit risk policies, practices, and governance expectations.
  • Knowledge of BDC products, services, policies, processes, and procedures, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact, influence, and negotiate effectively with internal partners and, when required, with clients.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while meeting critical deadlines in a high-volume environment.
