The Senior Manager, Finance Planning & Analysis plays an important role in Scotiabank’s GrowQC strategy. Their mandate is to collaborate with Finance and GrowQC teams to develop and implement a financial planning and analysis framework to support the Quebec expansion strategy. Responsibilities include profit planning, forecasting, monthly reporting, variance analysis, balance sheet/profitability analysis, and strategic initiative support, spanning all relevant business lines operating in the Quebec market (Retail, Tangerine, Commercial, Wealth Management and GBM).

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Support the delivery of forecasts and profit plans, including: Quarterly Forecasts, 5‑Year Strategic Plan and Annual Profit plan, including both revenue and expense budgeting.

  • Ensure the timely collection of data and actuals reporting to support forecasting
  • Review assumptions and complete analysis to ensure accuracy and completeness of deliverables and understand the impacts to relevant performance metrics of the business
  • Co‑ordinate and communicate deliverables within the Business Line and Finance
  • Partner with business leaders and finance teams to align financial strategy with business objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries from business line partners, finance and other key stakeholders
  • Coordinate to ensure centrally booked expenses are included and socialized with appropriate departments (i.e. Marketing).
  • Ensuring actuals and plan is ring‑fenced when in a central department.

Monthly & Quarterly Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Create clear, concise, and informative reports and dashboards to communicate data insights and key metrics to stakeholders. Use data visualization tools to present findings effectively.
  • Extract, transform, and analyze financial data from multiple sources, including databases, data warehouses, and external feeds, to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Coordinate, aggregate and consolidate Quebec data from all relevant business lines.
  • Support the analysis of the Grow Quebec Strategy portfolio/balance sheet, NII, NIM, PCL, expenses and key performance metrics (including non‑financial metrics).
  • Track and report the impact of initiatives quantitatively to measure success and areas for improvement
  • Identify main drivers of interest profit and expenses at the business unit and product levels and provide meaningful and relevant analysis to communicate headwinds, opportunities and proactively manage the P&L
  • Review existing reporting processes, recommend and implement improvements to existing financial analysis using Power BI
  • Apply visualization best practices to improve the communication and understandability of financial information

Portfolio Management, Balance Sheet & Profitability Analysis

  • Analyze the Quebec financials including portfolio churn, net interest income, net interest margin and PCL; identify main drivers of interest profit at the individual product level (loan/deposit/AUM growth, spread) to provide meaningful and relevant analysis
  • Key focus on the forecasting as well as the tracking and reporting of expenses and staffing against budget/plan

Strategic Projects and Business Partnership

  • Support Director with other strategic financial analysis and projects including revenue opportunities, strategic transactions, new product/program offerings, amongst many other initiatives

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We’d love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting/Finance/Commerce.
  • 7+ years in financial planning, business analysis, or data analytics roles with a focus in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Expert user of financial reporting, planning and forecasting systems and tools, including Anaplan, Hyperion and EGL/OBI/Smartview.
  • Experience in a complex matrix‑operating organization and highly regulated industry as well as good knowledge of Banking / Wealth Management products and services is desirable.
  • Good mastery of Excel (Power Query, DAX, VBA), Power BI, CRM and SQL databases along with Power Point and Data Visualizations tools (Alteryx or other analytics tools) are needed to use and create data storytelling presentations to various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Detailed experience in compiling and analyzing large volumes of data into usable form. Knowledge of other certifications in programming languages such as SQL, SAS, Python or other equivalent is desirable.
  • CPA / CMA designation and CFA enrollment are considered assets.
  • Broad knowledge of Bank’s products and services is desirable.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills are important
  • French is considered asset.
