Job description
Overview

At KPMG, you’ll join a team of diverse and dedicated problem solvers, connected by a common cause: turning insight into opportunity for clients and communities around the world.

As a lead member you will work closely with KPMG Partners on tax planning initiatives and requirements. Your organizational skills will enable you to direct the work of junior staff, including reviewing their work for accuracy and completeness. Additionally, you will research and prepare tax‑planning strategies for our clients and take the lead on the preparation of tax returns. The ideal candidate enjoys the spotlight and sets the standard for junior staff, by providing ongoing support and opportunities for professional development.

What you will do
  • Lead tax workstreams on acquisitions/dispositions of Canadian and international real estate and entities.
  • Support fund formation for sponsors, including vehicle selection, structure design, financing, Canadian access points, and investor side letters.
  • Assist with development of detailed tax planning memos and structure reports.
  • Advise on JV arrangements and sponsor economics and their tax consequences for domestic and foreign investors.
  • Advise on cross‑border considerations such as EIFEL/interest limitation impacts, hybrid considerations, and foreign exchange/hedging implications and withholding tax.
  • Build and review tax models to quantify after‑tax cash flows, leakage, and exit scenarios.
  • Taxable income computations and investor reporting through CDS and other channels.
  • Oversee annual T2/T3/T5013 filings, NR4 and related information reporting, and partner/shareholder allocations for multi‑vehicle, multi‑asset platforms.
What you bring to the role
  • CPA and completion (or near completion) of the CPA In‑Depth Tax program or equivalent; experience in corporate/international tax, real estate, or funds.
  • Public accounting firm experience.
  • Strong client service skills with the ability to understand the client’s business.
  • Demonstrated experience on cross‑border real estate or private equity mandates, with comfort navigating treaty/withholding, financing, and entity selection.
  • Strong project leadership: you can run multiple workstreams, coordinate cross‑functional specialists, and communicate clearly with non‑tax deal teams.
  • Curiosity and commercial judgment.
  • Commitment to mentoring and developing high‑performing teams.
