We are currently hiring for the position of:

SENIOR MANAGER, COMMUNICATIONS - MARKET

The Senior Manager, Communications, Market, will drive and execute internal and external communication strategies supporting the roll-out and change management of the Market while ensuring alignment with TIFF’s overall Communication and Stakeholder Relations Strategy and working within TIFF’s overarching Communication principles.

This role requires expertise in developing strategic communications plans, managing complex campaigns, fostering relationships across multiple stakeholder groups, and driving innovative strategies that deliver measurable results.

The incumbent will act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and lead the execution of all Market related communication initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Communication Leadership
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communication strategies building profile and awareness for the Market that align with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic priorities.
  • Shape and deliver messaging for key Market initiatives and announcements.
  • Monitor and analyze industry trends to proactively recommend innovative approaches to communication challenges.
  • Contribute to the development of long-term plans and strategic priorities for the communication function for Market.
  • Provide media training for Head of Market
Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as Market Sales, Partnerships & Business Growth, Marketing, Digital, and Corporate Partnerships to ensure cohesive messaging across all channels and touchpoints.
  • Serve as a key liaison between executive leadership and communication teams, ensuring alignment and timely execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Support organizational change efforts by crafting clear, effective communication plans to engage and inform employees.
Content Development and Messaging
  • Oversee, write and edit communication materials, including press releases, media advisories, speeches, briefing notes, presentations, and other written content.
  • Maintain TIFF’s brand consistency in all internal and external messaging, ensuring alignment with overall values and objectives.
  • Act as a market and brand champion to validate how brand voice and visual story is communicated across channels, ensuring consistency and factual data.
Media and Stakeholder Engagement
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with media outlets, journalists, and key stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination of organizational messages.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with external PR firm contracts.
  • Acts as day-to-day publicist for leadership levels of the Market.
  • Support strategic partnerships by ensuring communication objectives are effectively integrated and executed.
  • Organize and oversee press events in the lead up to and during the Festival/ Market events.
Performance Measurement and Reporting
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of communication strategies.
  • Provide regular reports and insights to senior leadership on media sentiment, campaign performance, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance the effectiveness of communication efforts.
  • Monitors costs and expenses quarterly against approved budget
Decision-Making and Scope of Influence
  • Ability to make independent decisions on communication strategies, content approval, and resource allocation to meet objectives with a high level of professionalism and diplomacy.
  • Recommend communication process improvements positively impacting the function and contribute to broader TIFF’s communication strategy.
  • Influence stakeholders across the organization and externally, with measurable impact on the organization's reputation and operational success.
SALARY:
  • $65,000-101,000/annually
TARGET CONTRACT DATES:
  • Immediate or upon availability
WORK LOCATION:
  • Office Location: 350 King Street West, Toronto, ON M5V 3X5
  • Weekly in-office requirements:
    • Minimum 2 days (1st November – 30th April)
    • Minimum 3 days (1st May – 31st October)
  • Festival Office Requirements: Full Time during Festival
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in corporate communication, public relations, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior management role.
  • Experience managing PR and media events.
  • Proven experience managing teams and delivering results in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment.
  • Established relationships with local, national and international entertainment media outlets and journalists.
  • Strong strategic thinking and decision-making skills with the ability to address varied, complex, and non-recurring communication challenges.
  • Superior Communications skills and a compelling storyteller (both written and spoken) with a clear and concise style.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and build trust across all levels of the organization.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset but not a requirement
