We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer to join our team in Toronto. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mission-critical mainframe applications that support our enterprise payments workflow. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, C, C++, IMS, DB2, CICS, and related mainframe technologies, as well as proven leadership capabilities. Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) for legacy system modernization is considered an asset.

What is the opportunity?

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer to join our team in Toronto. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mission-critical mainframe applications that support our enterprise payments workflow. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in COBOL, C, C++, IMS, DB2, CICS, and related mainframe technologies, as well as proven leadership capabilities. Knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Large Language Models (LLMs) for legacy system modernization is considered an asset.

What will you do?
  • Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications for enterprise payment processing; support and optimize batch processes and job scheduling.
  • Integrate APIs and other system components into the payments workflow; work with secure file transfer solutions such as IBM Connect: Direct and MFT systems.
  • Oversee mainframe system maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrades; utilize ServiceNow, Jira, SharePoint, and GitHub for incident tracking, project collaboration, and version control.
  • Ensure compliance with payment standards and support multiple payment types (ACH, wire, SWIFT, etc.); collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust payment solutions.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members; document processes, programs, and integration points; monitor system performance and implement improvements.
  • Contribute to legacy system modernization initiatives, leveraging AI and LLMs where applicable.

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have:
  • 7+ years of hands‑on mainframe development experience, with expertise in COBOL, C, C++, IMS, DB2, and CICS.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Strong experience with mainframe batch processing, job scheduling, and file transfers.
  • Experience with IBM Connect: Direct and MFT systems; API integration and general software development.
  • Proficiency in version control using GitHub; familiarity with Java, Python, and scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with ServiceNow, Jira, and workflow management tools; knowledge of AI and LLMs for legacy system modernization (asset).
  • Familiarity with EDI standards (X12, EDIFACT, etc.) is an asset, but not required.
  • Proven leadership and team collaboration skills; excellent problem‑solving, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to work onsite in Toronto office 4 days per week.
Nice-to-have:
  • Experience with DevOps tools/practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Understanding of security and compliance in financial environments.
  • Experience with Elastic Stack and payment system integration/automation.
