Qualifications

  • Ten years of experience leading transmission watermains and trunk sewer projects.
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario is required.
  • Experience with rehabilitation of large diameter transmission mains and sewer trunks is essential.
  • Experience with micro tunneling and tunneling projects is required.
  • Experience in water/wastewater hydraulic modeling and hydraulic transient analysis is needed.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects from concept to detailed design.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary design teams and manage junior staff.
  • Interface with regulators and clients; lead public information and project liaison efforts.
  • Prepare construction plans, tender documents, and cost estimates; supervise CAD production.
  • Develop project schedules, budgets, and Earned Value reporting; oversee QA/QC.

Job Function:

Working in the CFA Linear Infrastructure Group, this position in general comprises project and staff management, conceptual planning, assessment, analysis, Class EA study and detailed design and contract document preparation, support during construction and business development/client liaison for water and wastewater infrastructure projects (distribution and transmission watermains, sanitary/storm local and trunk sewers, water and wastewater pumping and storage facilities, stormwater management and drainage works and infrastructure rehabilitation and/or upgrade).

Responsibilities:
  • Carry out and manage all aspects of design for water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams
  • Provide leadership in the assessment and development of detailed designs for projects involving water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Understand and apply the current design guidelines, criteria and standards (OPS, OPSD, MECP, Region/Municipal, clients' own, etc.)
  • Develop designs through all design phases, conceptual to detailed designs
  • Analysis, evaluate appropriate design solutions and design of water and wastewater infrastructure
  • Perform design calculations and documentation for water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Supervise, oversee and review calculations and designs performed by junior engineers, EITs and other technical staff
  • Perform Independent Design Check calculations
  • Develop and administer preparation of construction plans for water and wastewater infrastructure projects
  • Coordinate with and direct CAD production activities for design production
  • Prepare and review technical reports, tender documents including technical special provisions to accompany construction plans
  • Develop quantity and expected construction cost estimates in support of plan, specification and estimate scopes of work
  • Prepare project schedules and budgets, reports on project status including Earned Value
  • Prepare task project documentation including PMP plan, issues log, risk log, utility matrices, etc.
  • Develop engineering studies, reports and documentation
  • Conduct quality control activities for independent review and checking of designs
  • Liaise with relevant agency / regulatory approval agencies and adhere to processes pertaining to municipal engineering projects
  • Liaise with other project stakeholders including the public through public consultation processes and attending public information meetings
  • Interface with clients for project delivery, attend client meetings and presentations
  • Coordination with sub-consultants
  • Lead a project team of engineers including training, development, recruiting and ongoing guidance and mentorship of team
  • Perform other duties as required
Business Development:
  • Preparation of proposals for linear water and wastewater infrastructures projects and making client presentations
  • Contribute to the proposal efforts for other related multidiscipline projects
  • Maintain and grow client relationships and attend client functions
  • Develop new opportunities with existing clients
  • Contribute to expanding client base to support company growth
  • Attend industry functions
  • Preparation of and contribute to project and company publications including presentations at industry functions
Qualifications:
  • Ten years experience in leading Transmission Watermains and Trunk Sewer Linear Projects
  • P.Eng. designation in Ontario
  • Experience in rehabilitation large diameter transmission mains and sewer trunks; using established trenchless technologies and products
  • Experience in micro tunneling and tunneling projects
  • Experience in sewer and water hydraulic modeling
  • Hydraulic transient analysis for large diameter transmission mains
  • Experience with local municipal systems would be considered an asset
  • Ability to work well with minimal direct supervision and exercise independent judgement and being a "self-starter"
