Job description
Senior Legal Manager

We are actively recruiting for the role of Senior Legal Manager reporting to the Legal Senior Director USA. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal support and advice across Tenariss business in Canada, including commercial procurement, labour & employment, regulatory, corporate governance and litigation.

This position is available in Calgary AB and Sault Ste. Marie ON. Only one Senior Legal Manager role will be filled, and the successful candidate will be based in either location depending on business needs.

Responsibilities
  • Provide general advice and legal oversight of Tenariss business in Canada by working closely with all business functions.
  • Mentor, develop and train a junior lawyer and work as part of the North American legal team.
  • Work directly with senior management, demonstrating sound judgment, professional communication style, practicality and an ability to manage expectations well.
  • Review draft and negotiate a wide variety of contracts and other legal documents with customers, suppliers and other business partners.
  • Provide timely and responsive client service.
  • In partnership with other functional areas draft and review various company policies.
  • Strategic day‑to‑day responsibility for the resolution of contractual issues, claims and disputes to support the commercial business while mitigating risk.
  • Assist in preparing standard terms and conditions.
  • Oversee litigation matters.
  • Work closely with the Human Resources department on labour and employment matters.
  • Oversee corporate governance and implement corporate structure changes.
Qualifications
  • JD or LLB from a recognized university.
  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta.
  • 4 years of legal experience in a top‑tier law firm or in‑house department.
  • Previous experience managing people is considered an asset.
  • Experience negotiating various contracts.
  • Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good commercial sense; practicality and proportionality in legal advice.
  • Ability to explain technical matters so that they can be easily understood by non‑lawyers.
  • Willingness and ability to manage a wide variety of legal issues across disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Possible occasional travel.
