Job Summary

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide legal support on commercial and regulatory matters affecting Tilray Brands Inc. and its subsidiaries in Canada. You will also support for regulatory compliance for Tilrays Canadian cannabis business including Cannabis Act and Regulations Provincial Cannabis Handbooks and applicable privacy laws.

This role reports directly to the Global General Counsel Mitchell Gendel and will work closely with the broader legal team.

You will be expected to navigate a broad range of commercial and regulatory legal issues with agility and sound judgment. This includes ensuring compliance with applicable laws supporting business operations and strategic initiatives identifying and mitigating legal and reputational risks and coordinating with external counsel while maintaining legal budget discipline.

Key Accountabilities
  • Act as a flexible in-house generalist capable of responding to a wide range of legal and quasi-legal issues as they arise across the business. This includes unexpected or time-sensitive matters that require quick judgment cross-functional coordination and practical legal solutions whether related to commercial operations regulatory compliance or employment concerns
  • Provide legal support for commercial transactions including drafting reviewing and negotiating contracts across various business units
  • Advise on regulatory compliance matters under the Cannabis Act and Regulations Provincial Cannabis Handbooks and applicable privacy laws
  • Monitor and interpret changes in Canadian regulatory frameworks and assess their impact on business operations
  • Support cross-functional initiatives including trade marketing compliance and product development by providing proactive legal input
  • Provide privacy employment and labor law advice as needed including policy development and compliance with applicable privacy laws
  • Assist with internal employment investigations including fact-finding documentation and resolution strategies
  • Monitor and assess legal risk providing strategic advice to mitigate reputational and operational exposure across Canadian business units
  • Develop and sustain good working relationships with business partners by facilitating open communication and becoming familiar with the designated business units
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctorate / LLB and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario or le Barreau du Québec
  • Fluency in English is required and French fluency is considered an asset particularly for regulatory filings and communications in Quebec but is not required
  • 4-8 years of experience in commercial and regulatory matters at leading law firm and / or broad in-house experience at a company
  • Experience advising internal stakeholders across multiple business areas including operations HR marketing and compliance
  • Strong skill set in risk management both from a legal and reputational standpoint
  • Experience working with outside law firms and managing legal budgets is an asset
  • Experience working in a regulated industry with the ability to quickly learn and apply relevant legal frameworks; prior knowledge of the cannabis sector is an asset but not required
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to translate complex legal concepts into practical business guidance and act as a trusted advisor
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively take initiative exercise sound judgment and manage competing priorities effectively.
  • Knowledge of Canadian privacy legislation and responding to access to information requests
  • Knowledge of Ontario and Quebec employment law
