Job description
Job Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning Disability Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Highpoint, a category C prison located in the village of Stradishall in Suffolk. Highpoint is split into two sites – the North Building hosts around 390 males and the South Building hosts around 950 males – both with designated Healthcare Departments where you will be based.

Hours
  • Monday – Sunday service
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:15 p.m.
  • Rotas are issued 1 month in advance
  • One weekend off every four
Salary

This full‑time position offers an annual salary of £43,609 – £49,175 FTE, depending on experience.

Main duties of the job
  • Manage a caseload and provide comprehensive nursing care for adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour within the criminal justice setting.
  • Work with adults whose behaviours have led to offending and entry into the criminal justice system.
  • Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary team to conduct person‑centred specialist behavioural assessments, planning and coordination of positive, non‑aversive behavioural approaches.
Qualifications required
  • Registered Nurse with NMC Registration – Learning Disabilities
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Substantial experience working with adults with learning disabilities across a range of clinical presentations
  • Experience of delivering learning disability health in a community or inpatient setting
  • Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment is desirable but not essential
UK Registration

Applicants must hold current UK professional registration.
