Job summary

Tecsys is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Java Developer to join our dynamic development team. In this role, you will design, develop, and maintain high-performance Java applications within an Agile team focused on continuous improvement of methodologies, tools, practices, and teamwork.

The ideal candidate has 5-7+ years backend Java, REST, JUnit, PostgreSQL, Git, Maven, and mentoring experience.

Qualifications

• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5-7+ years building backend applications in Java.
• Experience with JUnit, relational databases (PostgreSQL a plus), and tooling (Git, Maven, IDE).
• Mentoring developers and giving constructive code review feedback.
• Strong engineering judgment and pragmatic, maintainable solutions.
• Clean code, automated testing, and managing technical debt.
• Hands-on experience with REST services and API architecture.
• Comfort using AI-assisted or agentic dev tools, with ownership of what you ship.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication.

Responsibilities

• Owning complex technical problems end-to-end - from analysis and design through implementation, testing, deployment, and production support.
• Shaping architecture and technical direction, and pushing back on proposed solutions when a more pragmatic or sustainable path exists.
• Reviewing code with care, giving feedback that actually improves quality, maintainability, and performance - not just rubber-stamping PRs.
• Mentoring less experienced developers through pairing, knowledge sharing, and honest technical guidance.
• Spotting technical debt and quality risks early, and helping the team prioritize fixing them before they become fires.
• Working closely with Tech Leads, Product Owners, and QA to turn ambiguous requirements into solid, shippable solutions.
• Using AI-assisted and agentic development tools to move faster - while staying fully accountable for the design, quality, security, and correctness of what ships.

About the Role

In this role, you willbe responsible fordesigning, developing, andmaintaininghigh-performance Java applications. You will contribute byparticipatingin brainstorming sessions, understanding of requirements, and the coding of the solutions. You will work within an Agile team environment focused on the continuous improvement of their methodologies, tools,practicesand teamwork. Finally, your skills to collaborate with transversal disciplines, to build trust between peers and your capacity for positive influence will help you to overcome challenges successfully.

• Hands-on experience with REST services and API architecture.
• Comfort using AI-assisted or agentic dev tools, with full ownership of what you ship.
• Strong proficiency in both written and verbal English communication essential for effective correspondence with clients, suppliers, business partners and colleagues beyond the province of Quebec.
