Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on Java backend
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and enhance scalable backend applications using Java and Spring-based technologies
• Build and maintain APIs and microservices for high-volume, mission-critical apps
• Engage across the delivery lifecycle: design, develop, test, review and support
• Collaborate with analysts, tech leads and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Apply OOP, design principles and patterns for maintainable software
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs within complex enterprise environments
• Work with relational databases and data persistence concepts
• Participate in code reviews, testing, debugging and performance tuning
• Contribute to engineering practice improvements and delivery efficiency
• Explore AI-assisted development to improve productivity and quality
• Communicate effectively with client and internal teams

We’re looking for a Senior Java Backend Developer to join our team. This opportunity is open to candidates interested in either permanent or contract employment.

You’ll work as part of an experienced delivery team building and enhancing enterprise applications for a large financial services client. This is a hands‑on engineering role for someone with strong Java backend expertise who is comfortable working in complex enterprise environments and collaborating closely with technical and business stakeholders.

As an AI-native organization, we’re also looking for engineers who are interested in how AI can improve the software delivery lifecycle. Experience using AI‑assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar tools is an asset.

• Designing, developing and enhancing scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring-based technologies

• Building and maintaining APIs and microservices that support high-volume, business‑critical applications

• Working across the software delivery lifecycle, including solution design, development, testing, code review and production support

• Collaborating closely with developers, Business Systems Analysts, Technical Leads and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into effective technical solutions

• Applying sound object‑oriented design principles, engineering practices and design patterns to produce maintainable, high‑quality software

• Developing and integrating RESTful APIs and services within complex enterprise environments

• Working with relational databases and data persistence technologies

• Participating in code reviews, automated testing, debugging and performance optimization

• Contributing to continuous improvement of engineering practices, development processes and delivery effectiveness

• Using modern development tools and exploring AI‑assisted engineering techniques to improve productivity and quality across the software development lifecycle

• Communicating effectively with client and internal teams and contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing delivery environment

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands‑on experience developing backend applications in Java

• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot

• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices

• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming, software design principles and common design patterns

• Experience working with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts

• Experience with Git‑based source control and modern software development practices

• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and participating in code reviews

• Strong debugging, problem‑solving and analytical skills

• Experience working within Agile software delivery teams

• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience

• Previous experience within banking, payments or financial services

• Experience building or supporting high‑volume, transaction‑oriented systems

• Experience with cloud‑native application development and modern enterprise architectures

• Experience with messaging, event‑driven architectures or distributed systems

• Hands‑on experience using AI‑assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar

• Interest in applying AI across activities such as requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, debugging and code review

• Experience working in consulting or client‑facing delivery environments
