Job summary

High Tech Genesis Inc. in Toronto seeks a Lead/Principal Java Engineer to design and build next‑gen distributed systems across backend services, edge computing, and AI/ML platforms.

This hands‑on leadership role requires owning architecture, driving technical decisions, and delivering production‑grade code. You will mentor engineers, collaborate with data science, product, and security teams, and take greenfield ideas from concept to production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience building production distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
• Extensive experience with REST APIs, microservices, event‑driven architectures, and distributed systems.
• Strong AWS experience across compute, storage, networking, and IAM.
• Hands‑on experience with edge computing, CDN execution environments, edge workers, Lambda@Edge, or similar technologies.
• Experience building data platforms or systems supporting ML inference and model serving.
• Strong understanding of system design, scalability, reliability, observability, and security.
• Proven experience taking systems from 0 to 1 in an environment with evolving requirements.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
• Demonstrated experience using AI‑assisted development tools and LLM‑powered engineering workflows.
• JavaScript / TypeScript experience (nice to have).
• Python experience for data engineering or scripting (nice to have).
• Databricks or similar data/AI platforms (nice to have).
• JWT/JWS, PKI, OAuth 2.0, identity or token verification (nice to have).
• Observability platforms and distributed tracing (nice to have).
• Open-source contributions (nice to have).

Responsibilities

• Design and build end-to-end distributed systems spanning edge, ingestion APIs, processing, and storage.
• Develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
• Architect APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and data pipelines.
• Leverage AWS and edge/CDN technologies for solutions.
• Support ML model serving and data feature pipelines.
• Implement secure third‑party integrations and token validation.
• Set storage, reliability, observability, and security standards.
• Collaborate with data science and product teams to productionize AI capabilities.
• Lead technical design discussions and communicate decisions.
• Own greenfield initiatives from concept to production.
• Utilize AI‑assisted development tools to boost productivity.
• Mentor engineers and provide hands‑on leadership.
