The Supplier / Vendor Manager (SM) is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day relationship with third‑party IT vendors — especially those providing infrastructure, security, compliance, and SaaS services. They ensure vendors deliver what they’ve promised, follow the rules, and help reduce any risks to the business.
Work Arrangement: HYBRID role
Core Skills
- 5+ years experience with managing large enterprise technology (IT) and software suppliers
- 5+ years experience in vendor / supplier relationship management
- 5+ years experience with contract negotiation & management of IT suppliers. This includes expertise with negotiating terms, pricing, service levels, renewals, and managing the relationships on an ongoing basis with IT suppliers.
Preferred Skills / Experience
- 3+ years of proven success in leading people and developing high‑performing teams
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, promote, maintain, and manage an assigned business/group vendor management program
- Ensure the effective and efficient execution of all program components, including change management, communications, and risk mitigation
- Act as a trusted advisor; build credibility and influence by providing strategic guidance and fostering strong internal partnerships, especially with leaders
- Influence and negotiate to achieve business objectives and leverage expertise and relationships to shape outcomes that support business priorities, including vendor terms, service levels, and compliance requirements
- Review the vendor management program/processes for effectiveness, recommend and implement enhancements
- Assist in the development of strategic plans and break down strategic problems, analyzing data and information to provide program insights and recommendations
- Advocate for broader organizational support and assist in consolidating supplier relationships across BMO, including onboarding suppliers without formal relationships
- Educate and cross‑train members
- Accountable for how vendors are engaged, how relationships are maintained, and how performance and risks are tracked
- Coordinate budgets and reporting to track actual results vs budget, prepare financial reconciliations and attestation certificates as required
- Participate in the design, negotiation, and renewal of service level agreements, technical service agreements, or business partner agreements, and assess performance against SLAs/TSAs/BPAs
- Manage and administer supplier/service provider contracts in accordance with the Bank’s Outsourcing Model
- Oversee supplier and service provider invoice/billing activities to monitor cost expectations and resolve billing and payment issues
- Validate, prepare, and test business continuity and disaster recovery plans for supplier arrangements
- Support the development and promotion of a business/group vendor management program solution, and design and produce regular and ad‑hoc reports and dashboards
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
- Typically between 5–7 years of relevant experience and post‑secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- In‑depth knowledge and experience managing vendor programs and technical proficiency gained through extensive education and business experience
- In‑depth verbal & written communication skills, collaboration & team skills, analytical and problem‑solving skills, influence skills, and data‑driven decision‑making abilities
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $69,000.00 – $129,000.00 (Salaried). Salaries will vary based on location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure.
