  • Export Development Canada operates in a hybrid work environment, currently requiring employees to work in the office 2 days per week. (subject to change)
  • T his role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in in Toronto or Montreal.

Team Overview:

EDC’s Diversified Investments Team is looking for a strategic and execution-focused Senior Investment Manager to lead the active management of a large and diverse portfolio of private assets, including follow-on investments, divestment, and capital management opportunities. This role is well-suited for a seasoned professional with deep experience in the complete lifecycle of private equity and/or venture capital and a strong understanding of value realization strategies. The ideal candidate possesses a well-developed deal sense to promptly assess and action follow-on investment opportunities; an ability to firmly apply governance best practices and represent EDC on company boards either as director or observer; and experience in executing realization paths for EDC’s portfolio holdings.

What you will be doing:
  • Develop lifetime capital strategies for portfolio companies, execute follow-on direct investments across multiple sectors and maturity stages of privately held companies.
  • Identify, develop and execute exit strategies for a diverse portfolio of minority investments in venture stage companies.
  • Monitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities for value enhancement.
  • Lead management of complex files, including asset preparation, valuation, buyer identification, and transaction execution.
  • Collaborate with legal, financial, and operational advisors to optimize outcomes in distressed scenarios.
  • Build and maintain wide and strong relationships across domestic and international strategic buyers, co-investors, and intermediaries.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and governance frameworks throughout the investment lifecycle.
What your Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) will be:
  • Value Realization: Achieve or exceed target returns on exited investments through effective capital management.
  • Timeliness of Exits: Complete divestment processes within planned timelines.
  • Process Efficiency: Reduce transaction friction and advisory costs through proactive planning and execution.
  • Support the progression of investments professionals within the deal teams through active collaboration, coaching, and supervision of delegated responsibilities.
  • Stakeholder Satisfaction: Positive feedback from internal committees and external partners on deal execution and communication.
  • Portfolio Risk Reduction: Measurable reduction in exposure to underperforming or distressed assets.
  • Documentation Quality: High-quality investment committee materials and transaction documentation.
What we are looking for:
  • 7-10+ years of experience in venture capital / private equity, asset management, portfolio management, or investment banking.
  • Proven track record/referenceable deal sheet in private assets investments.
  • Experience working with management team and shareholders to create viable monetization paths.
  • Deep understanding of venture capital structures and private equity investment dynamics.
  • Experience in full asset class lifecycle including restructuring or turnarounds, ideally within an institutional investor, Big Four advisory practice, or top-tier law firm.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent financial modeling, negotiation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • CFA, CPA, MBA or equivalent designation preferred.
  • Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
