Job summary

Recruitment By Design represents a Toronto-based award-winning design firm seeking an experienced Senior Interior Designer with a passion for hospitality and commercial work to join their in-studio team on a permanent, full-time basis.

You will lead projects, coordinate with clients and contractors, and oversee design development from concept through contract administration, ensuring design excellence and execution.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture or interior design.
  • 8+ years of professional experience (not including co-op).
  • Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, and SketchUp.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate internal project deliverables with Associates and oversee planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of project phases.
  • Develop and guide concept design, design detailing and production of presentation materials; prepare design development materials.
  • Lead development of construction documents and ensure design continuity across teams.
  • Perform field reviews, guide contract administration and coordinate with contractors to resolve site issues.

Job description

Our client, an award-winning Toronto based design firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Interior Designer with a passion for hospitality and commercial work to join their team. This is a permanent, full-time, in studio position, offering a base salary of $85-100k, or more, depending on experience, plus a competitive vacation and benefits package.

This practice relies on its senior staff to see the big picture and lead the successful execution of projects by being a leader and dedicated team player, bringing creativity and approaching tasks with ingenuity. To be the successful candidate, you will have a commitment to design excellence and execution in interior design and space planning, and strong skills in the production and co-ordination of contract documents with annotated and dimensioned drawings. You must be able to demonstrate experience ranging from concept design through to contract administration.

You will have the ability to share design ideas, communicate clearly, develop concepts and present unique design proposals. The role is diverse and will involve individual work as well as significant teamwork. A senior staff member is a critical point person who must effectively manage varying workloads while coordinating with team members, clients, contractors, and others.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in architecture or interior design

  • Minimum 8+ years professional working experience not including co-operative education placements
Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Work with Associates to coordinate internal project deliverables.
  • Provide oversight in the planning, implementation, execution, and evaluation of project phases.
Design
  • Oversee, develop, and guide concept design, design detailing and production of presentation materials.
  • Develop and prepare design development materials.
  • Develop designs with intent, based on research and resolution of technical/ design issues.
  • Lead development of construction documents and follows up with design work as drawings and construction progress.
  • Support Associates with ensuring design continuity.
Technical
  • Support Associates in site coordination, work with contractors in solving construction and site issues.
  • Oversee and lead the production of architectural drawings and models.
  • Support Leaders in maintaining and managing all project documentation related to architectural design and contract administration.
  • Perform field review, guide contract administration and work effectively with contractors to resolve construction/ site issues.
  • Perform effective analysis of applicable building codes, by-laws and other regulations and technical documents / reports to which a project may be subject.
  • Inspire and motivate; collaborates across teams.
  • Provide oversight, quality assurance and review work produced by team members to ensure that firm standards are being met.
  • Motivate staff by challenging them, engaging their creativity, and recognizing achievements.
  • Role model behaviour and expectations for quality of work.
