Job summary

Kiewit’s Power Engineering Group in Calgary is seeking mid to senior level Instrumentation & Controls Engineers to join our growing team. You will provide I&C technical expertise for the execution and evaluation of power project designs, collaborating with internal teams, external engineers, construction partners, and clients.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering is required.
  • CEAB accreditation is preferred.
  • P. Eng designation is highly preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 5+ years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience, preferably in power generation, EPC, or industrial environments.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the power generation market.
  • Experience with SCADA, DCS and PLC systems is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with control system programming concepts.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and experience mentoring peers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead on small projects or a key contributor on larger projects.
  • Perform design tasks including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Apply engineering standards, codes, and Kiewit practices to project work.
  • Support SCADA/DCS/PLC system design and implementation.
  • Assist with proposals, cost estimates, and feasibility studies.
  • Review vendor submittals and shop drawings; support issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with multi-discipline teams, vendors, and construction partners.
  • Support equipment selection, bid evaluations, and procurement activities.
  • Participate in construction and commissioning support.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team development.
  • Lead I&C design on complex or multiple projects.
  • Provide technical leadership and oversee all I&C deliverables.
  • Lead SCADA/DCS/PLC system architecture and design strategy.
  • Own quality, compliance, and consistency of engineering deliverables.
  • Lead proposals, cost estimates, and client-facing technical discussions.
  • Direct feasibility, planning, and cost studies, making client recommendations.
  • Oversee and approve design documents, specifications, and vendor submittals.
  • Lead equipment selection, bid evaluations, and contract recommendations.
  • Serve as primary I&C interface with clients, vendors, and construction teams.
  • Resolve complex technical issues and provide high-level troubleshooting.
  • Mentor, coach, and direct mid-level and junior engineers.
  • Drive innovation, best practices, and continuous improvement.
