Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our Canada-wide team in a full-time role. You will contribute to hydroelectric projects, pumped-storage facilities, dams, and hydraulic structures, with opportunities to collaborate on multidisciplinary initiatives such as port infrastructure and environmental programs.

The ideal candidate has 15+ years in hydraulic design, P.Eng and OIQ eligibility, and strong HEC-RAS/HEC-HMS experience; fluency in French and a track record of technical

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources or Hydraulic Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer and member of the OIQ, or eligible for registration.
  • Minimum of 15 years of hydraulic design experience for hydropower, hydraulic modelling and dam safety.
  • Strong working knowledge of HEC-RAS and HEC-HMS.
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead discipline-specific work and coordinate teams on project delivery.
  • Prepare technical reports and calculation packages for hydraulic studies and dam safety analyses.
  • Perform feasibility, preliminary, and detailed design for hydropower and pumped storage.

Job Description

AECOM is currently seeking a Senior Hydraulic Engineer to join our team in a full-time role based out of any AECOM office across Canada.

In this role, you will contribute to a wide range of projects involving hydroelectric generating stations, pumped-storage hydropower facilities, dams, and hydraulic structures . You may also collaborate with other business lines on multidisciplinary projects related to port infrastructure, transportation structures, and environmental initiatives .

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a technical lead and take ownership of discipline-specific assignments, coordinating engineering professionals and technical teams involved in project delivery.
  • Prepare and author technical reports and calculation packages for a variety of projects, including hydraulic studies and analyses, energy production simulations, transient flow analyses, and dam safety assessments.
  • Carry out feasibility studies, preliminary design, and detailed engineering for hydropower developments and pumped storage facilities (powerhouses, dams, spillways, diversion structures, etc.), as well as, on occasion, other hydraulic infrastructure such as canals and bridges.
  • Perform hydraulic and hydrodynamic numerical modelling, including dam breach analyses using 1D, 2D, and 3D models.
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical studies prepared by team members and provide technical oversight and mentorship to engineers.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Water Resources Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, or a related field.
  • Registered Professional Engineer and member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), or eligible for registration.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in hydraulic design for hydropower developments, hydraulic modelling, and dam safety engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of the HEC software suite (HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, etc.).
  • Excellent technical report writing and communication skills.
  • Fluency in French, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Hydraulic Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 20+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience with Flow-3D and Simsen software.
  • Bilingualism (French and English) to support projects and clients across Canada and internationally.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
